A Little ESPionage Never Hurt Anyone

Midway's new stealth action game takes the Metal Gear formula and adds mind control, pyrokinesis, and "psychic-terrorist super soldiers." We've got some extra screens now!
Although online game retailers have already let the cat out of the bag as far as Midway's E3 lineup is concerned (NARC, Spy Hunter 2 and a legion of new sports titles are all in the mix), the erstwhile publisher is still keeping the details behind the titles a closely guarded secret...for now. The gradual unfreezing process began today, however, when Midway sent official word about ESPionage, a brand-new title that will hit all three major consoles (PS2, Xbox, and GameCube) in the fourth quarter of 2003.ESPionage is a Metal Gear Solid-style stealth action game with something of a twist?Jack Gellar, the U.S. special-forces soldier you control in the game, is a master of psionic powers. Something like Miss Cleo, in fact. Instead of using his occult ability to help frumpy housewives, however, Jack prefers to help defend America against "The Movement," a terrorist organization with "an army of brainwashed psychic-terrorist super soldiers," according to Midway's release.
Gellar's Psi abilities, which require a constant supply of Psi energy to use, include telekinesis (picking up objects and enemies with one's mind), pyrokinesis (set stuff on fire), mind control (take control of an enemy's body), mind drain (drain Psi energy from enemies), aura view (see otherwise-invisible elements), and remote viewing (have an out-of-body experience to scout out the way ahead). In addition to all this, Jack will have an arsenal of conventional weapons?the usual handguns, rifles, and grenades. All this will be used in six different levels, spread out over four different military compounds and filled with enemy soldiers and multiple pathways to the end.
ESPionage will be front and center at Midway's booth at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles in May. Stay tuned for more information on this game later.
