Rockstar Games comes through on its promise and announces a surprisingly close PC date for the top-selling game of 2002. Will it be much worse for wear?
Ask a PC owner about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and he'll likely respond by cursing your mother under his breath. Thanks to the PS2-exclusivity deal Rockstar Games has going with Sony, the publisher had to delay the release of both Vice City and the original GTAIII to months after the console versions were available?an affront Rockstar tries to make up for by offering a couple freebies in the PC port. The PC version of GTA Vice City, officially announced by Rockstar today, will be no different: when it hits North America on May 13 (and Europe on May 16), it'll include a wealth of extra features that will hopefully make up for PC owners' lost time, so to speak."We felt that we had to truly outdo ourselves when it came to developing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and felt that we owed it to the fans to continue to keep enhancing and delivering the gameplay," said Rockstar head Sam Houser in a release. "We are truly humbled by the response that the game has received so far and are extremely excited to showcase Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PC."
Rockstar doesn't have exact specifics yet on what'll be new for the PC release, but the general feature list has been divulged: improved graphics and sound, extra control configuration features, and "several options for players to customize the game," presumably similar to what was available in the PC version of GTAIII. We'll be keeping our eye on this PC release, so stay tuned for further details soon.
