Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Pinball Party Screens

It's a mini-Sega extravaganza! Take a look at the Sonic Adventure remake's shiny characters, then bap them around a bit in Sega's new GBA pinball collection.

As reported earlier, Sega's Sonic Team is preparing a GameCube remake of the first Sonic Adventure and a new GBA pinball compilation for release in Japan this summer. Now, however, we've got the pictures to prove it.

Sonic Adventure DX, the official name for Sega's GameCube remake, seems to be a more-or-less standard port of the Dreamcast game that defined an era back in 1998. If the first few screens are any judge, then the characters have been remodeled?you can see some very impressive light refraction effects, actually?and a wee bit more detail has been applied to the backgrounds. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, then, but still worth it if you missed the first one.

The GBA game, on the other hand, is brand new and already looks pretty exciting. Called Sonic Pinball Party, the pack contains three different tables, all based on one Sonic Team-developed game or another. Each table uses its theme to its practical limits?the Sonic one lets you raise Chaos and fight off Dr. Eggman; the Nights table (right) includes things like the "Ideya Palace target" and the "Nightopian hole", and the Samba de Amigo table lets you switch the background music (anything from Phantasy Star Online to Burning Rangers) with a well-placed shot into the bumpers. There are a couple of four-player games (including a version of air hockey) included, and you can also take the Chaos you raise in the Sonic table and bring them over to Sonic Adventure DX (or Sonic Adventure 2 Battle) via the Game Link cable.

Both of these titles are getting their public debut at the World Hobby Fair, taking place at various cities across Japan over the next few weeks. The games will go on sale this summer; no U.S. date has been announced yet.
