Take-Two and Sony team up to release a seven-CD compilation of 80s music from the next Grand Theft Auto. It'll come out next month.
Rockstar Games announced today that they'll be teaming up with Sony Music to release a Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack this October. That isn't news?what is news is the size of this thing. The complete soundtrack will run seven CDs, one for each genre of 80s music the game covers?pop, metal, "radical" hip-hop, and so on.Each CD (they'll all be sold separately) will represent one of the seven simulated radio stations you can tune your radio to in the game. Something like eighty different artists will be represented, including such timeless acts as Kool and the Gang, Hall and Oates, Blondie, Judas Priest, and?who can forget?Flock of Seagulls. The list alone brings tears to our eyes. (And there's the added bonus of stealing cars and running over cops while listening to this stuff in the game. Too much.)
"The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always broken the boundaries of what videogame soundtracks can be," said Terry Donovan, COO of Rockstar Games. "The soundtrack albums will arguably represent the most diverse, extraordinary and innovative collection of music ever assembled for any piece of entertainment?whether it be video games, television or feature films."
All seven soundtracks should be in stores on October 29, right alongside the PS2 game itself. No word on price yet.
