Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Reappears on PS2, Xbox

Capcom takes the wraps off the latest port of their arcade fighter. It's got online support?for the PS2 only?in Japan, at least.

Capcom graciously gave us our first look today at the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, the arcade fighter which came out on the Dreamcast a fairly long time ago. Both titles are coming to Japan September 19 and the U.S. sometime in November. The PS2 version has full online support in Japan, to the point where Capcom's actually releasing a special MvC package that includes a PS2-compatible modem for 9800 yen (about $82), but you can't go online at all with the Xbox version. (Capcom hasn't said anything about U.S. online support yet.)

If you've played the Dreamcast Marvel vs. Capcom 2, then you'll regrettably not find much new in these two versions. The 2D sprites are exactly as low-res as they were in the arcade, and no new modes have been added in the two years since the Dreamcast version hit U.S. shores. Still, the PS2 version does lets you play against online opponents on a nationwide ranking system, which is always nice to have if you can't find anyone local to play with you. Stay tuned for full coverage of the U.S. version soon.
