Not that Nintendo Power? Nintendo's Japanese SNES and GBC downloading service will draw to a close this August.
Nintendo's Kyoto head office announced today that Nintendo Power, their Japan-only downloading service for SNES and Game Boy Color owners, will come to a close at the end of August.Started in 1997, the Nintendo Power system allowed gamers to buy special RAM cartridges for their SNES or GBC and copy officially licensed games onto them at convenience stores across Japan. Over 200 games are available for download, most available for between 1000 and 2000 yen (between $8 and $16). Several games, including several Picross puzzlers and a new game in Nintendo's Fire Emblem series of strategy RPGs, were available only as a Nintendo Power download.
Japanese gamers have until August 31 to run over to their local store and download Nintendo Power games. After that, they'll have to send their RAM cartridges to Nintendo HQ to get new games for them.
