Apple looking for 'AAA developer' for internal video game team
- November 13, 2009 16:24 PM PST
A new posting on the "Jobs at Apple" page seems to indicate that the iPhone creator is looking to develop more in-house games.
While the iPhone has become a powerful force in the portable gaming market, it has done so almost entirely due to software created by third parties. That may change in the near future, as the company seems to be on the search for seasoned video game developers. Earlier today, Apple news site AppleInsider discovered a new posting on the "Jobs at Apple" section of the company's website, calling for a "Game/Media Software Engineer."
Don't let the "/Media" fool you, though, as the text of the job posting indicates that the company is looking for a top-tier gaming developer. According to the posting, Apple wants applicants to have "3-4 years of video game development experience" and "shipped at least one AAA title." Jaded developers needn't apply, however, as the company is looking for a "passionate gamer."
Do you meet the aformentioned requirements? Can you make a game better than Apple's one other published iPhone game, Texas Hold 'Em? Then head on over to Apple's job posting section and throw your hat into the ring!

Maybe Bungie will go back to them. Doubt it though, they probably prefer not being owned but they could make games for apple.

Apple's making a foray into actual game publishing - I wonder if those games will get any favoritism in display in the app store. Hmmm....

Imagine if square enix made a game for it. Now that the iPhone/iPods are no longer underclocked they can get the most out of that 600+ MHz processor. At the moment, games on the PSP tend to look better.

I feel like people play with their iPhones and actual handhelds separately. Since we associate it with a phone first. That and honestly the majority of DS players are pretty young to be trusted with an iPhone. They'd probably have some cheap-o LG or something.

If you believe that than I can no longer consider you intelligent.

That's actually not true. Most people don't associate the iPhone as being a phone first. Every single last person in my office owns an iPhone, and I think I have only seen one of them actually talking on it. They play games, and they hate talking on it because it will drain the battery and they can't game on it anymore. Some of them even bought separate phones, so they don't get interrupted while playing games on the iPhone. You forget that a heck of a lot of people also own iPod Touches, like me, and with over a Billion Apps downloaded since launch it is hard to argue that people think of it more as a Mobile Entertainment Device and a Gaming Handheld than they do a phone.

APPLE really want to get in to gaming. They need to spread ther ip more then just Iphones and Ipods. They need to bring them to the Wii,XBOX 360 and PS3. But they most likey will not listen to me any way.
