On the heels of Microsoft confirming the public release of Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm, Sony has confirmed that leaked images showing a customized version of Facebook running on the PS3 are real, and that further information would be revealed in the near-future.
After giving many of its users an early look at the new Xbox 360 feature, Microsoft has announced (via Major Nelson) that it will be officially rolling out its latest Dashboard update, which includes Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm. You can check out my in-depth impressions of the update here.
Meanwhile, Eurogamer has received confirmation from Sony that recently leaked images of a customized PlayStation 3 version of Facebook (found by Scrawl and posted above) are indeed legitimate. While the PS3 is already capable of viewing Facebook through its web browser, this will hopefully allow for quicker and more user-friendly access to the popular social networking site.

I know I don't speak for the majority on this, but I just don't care about Facebook or Twitter on my game consoles. It's bad enough getting frequent messages while on the computer, but now while i'm gaming too? What's next? Facebook/Twitter apps in books?!

I use the Wii browser to go to YouTube ALL the time... and I use it to look up PS3 games FAQs... that way if I'm stuck on a PS3 game, I hit pause, switch the input to Wii, look up my answer and switch back. Works great! But as far as Facebook and emails etc... I definitely prefer using my PC with a real keyboard and mouse.

and ur not a fanboy? i dont use the browser because im a fanboy but due to its convenience.
Even though facebook is usable on the ps3 browser, it is an easier way of accessing and sharing on facebook.

You didn't read the whole article before you commented. Access through the browser was already mentioned. They were talking about a better way to integrate facebook with the gamer side of community.

Ya know, it's very weird to think of how many people talk bad when a console they don't have gets something exclusive and then praise it when it comes to the one they own. I always hear people brag about the web browser on the ps3 and hardly use it, but no one ever stops to think of how great of an idea it is on microsofts part to bring popular internet sites to their console in an improved form as an app. SONY is always getting things late and afterwards and hardly brings exclusive things that will be popular. Web browsers are so lame on consoles right now and I bet if MS decides to bring IE to the 360 it will be much better than the other 2. Love my ps3 but don't care to play ketchup anymore...
Going to play MW2 on my super elite 360 now. /rant

True, Sony is late, but thats not whats important. App or no app, facebook is still facebook and twitter is still twitter. Xbox is JUST getting facebook and twitter, big whoop. That doesn't change the fact that the ps3 was already capable of that since day one, and they didn't require you to pay a fee to use their service. I bet when they get facebook its gonna be free. True, Xbox Live exceeds the PSN in performance, but no one was bashing the 360 to begin with. Xbox LIVe is phenomenal. if anyone is late, its the 360 with this facebook/twitter stuff. lol. how are web browsers lame? some people would love to browse the web on their 52" plasma tv without having to do computer hook-ups. give me a fully functional browser over an app any day. xbox cant do youtube on the tv so the whole family can watch. =p Exclusive?? Sony's blu-ray, use of blutooth, and list of exlusive games aren't good enough for you? thats on your watch. but you make no sense talking like you're a 360 fanboy when you in fact own a ps3 as well. i wonder..
