For $10 more players can expect new content, new equipment and a shiny metal box (but no cloth map.)
Bioware dropped a press release this morning with official details and pricing info for the collector's edition of their hotly-anticipated sci-fi epic. With a $10 price bump, here's what consumers can expect to get for their cash:
- - Premium tin case
- - Game disc
- - Hardcover art book, "Art of Mass Effect 2"
- - First issue of the Mass Effect: Redemption comic book
- - Bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes interviews
- - Exclusive in-game armor and weaponry
A glimpse of the unique equipment included in the Collector's Edition.
No details yet on exactly what kind of exclusive armament Bioware intends to include, but judging by the Blood Dragon Armor available to those who purchased a new copy of Dragon Age: Origins and the two pre-order sets (Terminus armor and weaponry if you reserve a copy at GameStop, and Inferno armor for the rest of us,) it will be something suitably impressive. Dr. Ray's comments in the release also hint at some additional content, perhaps akin to the "Stone Prisoner" and "Warden's Keep" DLC bundled with the Dragon Age Collector's Edition:
"We?re really excited to roll out this Collectors' Edition featuring so many unique items, including special Collectors' Edition armor and weapons and content that will surprise Mass Effect fans," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. "The limited edition comic book and bonus DVD will really enhance and expand the overall Mass Effect 2 experience."
Players who pre-order will also receive a unique set of armor depending on where they shop (courtesy of G4TV.)
Mass Effect 2 is scheduled to hit store shelves on January 26th, and the Collector's Edition is expected to sell for $69.99 ($59.99 on PC.) Bioware PR has made a lot of noise about the ability for Mass Effect fans to continue the story (by importing save data from the original) so if you haven't had a chance to pick up the original on PC yet, take advantage of Steam's weekend sale and grab Mass Effect for $10.

Bioware is the only company I buy CE's from. It is because they are that good of a developer.

Definitely a very nice collector's edition, unlock the God of War 3 CE where you are just getting the game, a box and a bunch of download codes to watch dvd content and listen to mp3 files. Bioware knows how to do collector's editions the "right" way.
