EA and Double Fine have announced that two new multiplayer maps, along with a new axe weapon, will be available as DLC Brütal Legend starting next week. As a bonus for PS3 users, the DLC will be free for the first two weeks!
It's only been out for two weeks, but fans are really taking to Br?tal Legend and its unique multiplayer. EA and Double Fine will look to capitalize on that popularity when they release two additional multiplayer maps for the game next week, which come with a bonus axe upgrade. The maps will be available on November 3 on Xbox 360 for 400 MS Points ($5). The PlayStation 3's DLC, however, will be free for the first two weeks when it releases on November 5, with the price shifting to $5 on November 19.
EA and Double Fine's press release is below. Please note that since the release is from the UK, that the prices do not reflect US currency. I have sent word out to find out about the exclusivity of the deal and will update the article if I hear back. Any Xbox 360 Br?tal Legend owners out there have anything to say on the topic?
DOUBLE FINE AND EA GET ROCKING WITH FIRST DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT FOR BR?TAL LEGEND
Tears Of The Hextadon Map Pack Unleashes Two New Multiplayer Maps In November
Guildford, UK - October 27, 2009 - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Double Fine Productions Inc. will turn up the volume come November when the first downloadable content is released for the heavy metal, third person action game, Br?tal Legend(tm). Tears of the Hextadon will be available on Xbox LIVE(r) on November 3 for 400 MS Points and on PlayStation Network(r) on November 5, where the two-map pack will be downloadable for free until November 19, then costing P 3.99 after November 19.
The Br?tal Legend Tears of the Hextadon map pack expands the Br?tal Legend Stage Battle multiplayer experience with two new multiplayer maps. In the first map, Circle of Tears, vile waters have carved a rough-hewn circular battlefield into a forsaken land that players must circumvent to destroy their opponent. In the second map, Death's Fjord, players find themselves on an icy mountain pass with a dense cluster of fans that lie below, waiting to be harvested by those brave enough to capture them without cover from enemy attack. All players who download the new map pack will receive a free axe, the Blade of Ormag?den.
"I play Br?tal Legend online every night," said Tim Schafer, President of Double Fine Productions. "And I need more maps! Circle of Tears is named after the crying of my vanquished foes on the battlefield, and Death's Fjord is obviously a tribute to my Nordic ancestors, and their love of fan geysers and... Well, actually I just thought the name was cool. See you online!"

Good news for PS3 owners. I love Brutal Legend, and while I love the battle games of multiplayer, they can get old pretty quick, so I'll pass. Maybe some new missions/side missions though, then I'll definitely buy

I'm on the fence right now about spending $5 on the DLC for the Xbox 360 version. I really like the existing maps, but I don't think they're worth $2.50. I'll get a few more online battles in over the next week to see if they'll be worth the scratch.
Adding achievements would definintely push it into the "worth it" column.

Not that I'm complaining at all,but why is the PS3 version free until the 19th?
I'm still sidelined on a purchase of this game.I mean the demo was cool, especially the intro, but I'm not entirely sold on this game just yet. Think I'll borrow it then decide if it's worth the purchase.

I can tell you that the demo doesn't do the game justice. After you fight "Miss Lickey", you go out into the the BL universe. The map is huge, and there is tons of stuff to do.
