Amazon to reward town with most Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders

Amazon has kicked off a "Call of Duty-est Town in America" promotion, in which the US town with the highest percentage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reserves will receive a $5,000 Amazon gift card for the charity of their choice!

Amazon to reward town with most Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders

As if a sweet $20 bonus credit wasn't tempting you enough to reserve Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Amazon, the online sales giant has gone and pitted every town in America against each other in a massive pre-order battle under the guise of charity.

The promotion, which is being called the "Call of Duty-est Town in America," will award a $5,000 Amazon.com gift card to a charity serving the town with the highest percentage of pre-orders amongst its population. While Amazon is keeping most of the stats private, the company has provided rankings for the top 40 current pre-order kings. Not surprisingly, many of the highest-ranking towns are homes to highly-attended colleges, in which a large percentage of the students aren't even listed as residents. The current leader is Athens, Ohio, a town with a population of 21,909. The town is home to Ohio University, which has a student body of 20,437.

The winning town will be announced shortly after midnight on November 9, 2009.

i cancelled my gamestop pre-order and got it from amazon.. booyah! I was also angry at them b/c they only gave me 7.75 for a copy of Resident Evil 5 on PS3 when I picked up Fifa 10 the other day. I'm tired of them ripping me off.

Hmm too bad Amazon is removing all the negative reviews from the PC version. Looks like Activision can buy them. Wonder how many console ppl will complain when they find out after they baught it that they don't have LAN support?

$5000 might as will be $1 considering the amount of money that Amazon generates. Though I'm sure they donate to other charities.

Maybe so. But remember, Amazon doesn't HAVE to give any money at all. 5000 dollars is still alot and its more than Gamestop would ever do.

$7.75?!?!?!?! Holy sh*t man it's like you basically gave it to them... F*cking pieces of sh*t, considering they'll just flip it for 40 of 50 bucks or whatever. A$$holes.
