Miyamoto: next console 'likely' to keep motion controls

Here's a revelation that should surprise absolutely no one. While chatting with Popular Mechanics (via IGN), Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto surmised that the company's next home console would probably utilize motion controls, when he stated "[...]while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future, what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient."

Let the speculation begin. Do you think we'll see smaller Wii Remotes without add-ons like the Nunchuk and MotionPlus? Will the "cost-efficiency" of this motion control be passed onto us? Or is Nintendo just setting up a red herring to really surprise us with a completely new concept for the next console?

Of course they're going to keep motion control, but I hope that the next console will at least be around 360/ PS3 power with more ram.

I've played my Wii plenty of times and with the exception of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, I don't think I have ever once played standing up and swinging my arms. Ever.

I think of the wii as a test system for the next generation. Seeing as how the other major platforms are transitioning to some kind of motion control it just seems a given that the next console for all companies will involve motion controls, whether we like it or not. Nintendo will more than likely keep the motion controls that they have for the wii, but updated. They'd better learn from their mistakes and get serious with online support and more powerful hardware in general. But, hey I'd say that we have at least another 2-3 years before the next systems launch. So, kick back and enjoy what we got.

I'm hoping that since Sony and Microfsoft have gotten into motion control, that Nintendo will now be forced to keep up, since they won't be able to depend on what made them original. Then again the last 3 number one systems of the last 3 generation were the number 1 systems, PS1, PS2, and the Wii.

Casual gamers couldn't understand. Yeah until nintendo can appeal to the hard-core, I have no interest in what they are selling. Which is just fine. What they are doing seems to be working just fine for them.

In reality you don't have to. Most games just involve moving the wrist. The only game I've gotten up for is Wii Sports to swing the bat, but even that you can do by just swinging your wrist. Very little motion.
