New PS3 Slim model is $50 more than the original, with more than twice the space.

Sony recently announced another product in the PS3 "Slim" line, a beefier version with a 250GB hard drive identical to the models announced in the Japanese, Australian and European markets. The second PS3 Slim is confirmed for release in North American markets November 3rd at $349.

Sony announces 250GB PS3 Slim out 11/3 for $349

Previously announced in Europe and Japan, the new PS3 Slim is finally coming to America.

Since the Playstation doesn't offer players the option of installing games to the hard drive it's unclear exactly what you might need all that space for, but Sony is hoping you'll fill it from the cornucopia of downloadable content available for purchase on PSN. Brace yourself for PR spin:

Following the successful launch of the slimmer and lighter PlayStation 3 (PS3) system with 120GB hard disk drive (HDD), Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced that a new PS3 system with a 250GB HDD will be available on November 3 for $349.99 (MSRP). Launching in time for the holiday season, the 250GB PS3 system provides consumers with plenty of storage capacity to download more games, movies, and TV shows from PlayStation Network, as well as to store their personal media files, including music, photos, and videos.

The 250GB PS3 system offers the same form factor and functionality as the current 120GB system, which achieved retail sales of 1 million units worldwide in the three weeks since its launch on September 1. Both models will be available at retail this holiday, providing both gamers and gift-givers with the opportunity to choose the PS3 system that’s right for them.

More than 600 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PlayStation Network as of September 2009, and in conjunction with the launch of the 250GB PS3 system, PlayStation Network will continue to expand with a broad range of original games and blockbuster entertainment content for download this holiday season. Exclusive downloadable games launching soon on PlayStation Store include PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, and Hustle Kings.

THE VERDICT by Alex Wawro Alex Wawro's Avatar I've barely filled a quarter of my 80 gig HD, so as cool as this new model is I can't see many people dropping $350 on new hardware. Now if I had access to the rumored European 250GB Assassin's Creed 2 bundle, on the other hand...

I've used 90 gigs on my ps3 i have now. Just because you wouldn't find a need for it doesn't mean that no one else does Alex Wawro. Besides people drop 350 on I-phones so people do drop that much on new hardware. People also dropped 400 on the original x-box 360 and 600 on the original ps3. You're verdicts su@k

Sony is doing this simply to compete with microsoft being as how there's a modern warfare 2 bundle coming out next month with 250 gigs of storage space.

Its cheaper just to buy a hard drive with alot of space and just install it into the ps3 instead of wasting money buying another ps3.

GeForceX

Hey I wouldn't mind droping 350 on a 250 gig ps3 I am actually lookng to buy another blu Ray player for my room I got a 60 gig ps3 already... And ps3 is a great deal especially at that price with huge storage. Besides I'm out of space and those mandatory game installs take up a good amount of storage gigs of it.

maranda

if they include one or two games, I would buy it. But they have to be good games, like resistance, ratchet and clank, uncharted, etc.

so your saying to a NON-PS3 OWNER who find this a deal its a wast of money to buy 250gb PS3 for $350. i'm sure most PS3 owners know you can swap harddrives, unless your a person like geforcex who wont another PS3 and find this deal sweet. so how can it be a waste of money.

michael909

this is a sweet deal $50 more and i get 250 gigs instead of 120.i almost bought the 120 gig modle the other day now im glad i waited ill be getting this 250 gig modle now.my older 80 gig modle is filled to the brim

shytown420

i wish i waited to get the 250gb cause since i got the ps3 slim on launch. I already used up half of my hdd on dlc and home. I think 4 $50 more its a great deal.

Oh. Another version of the PS3. Um, yay, I guess. I was under the impression that Sony's consoles had not been selling well, and had only recently started to get better. I suppose their hoping it was the new slim design and not the massive price drop that motivated people to get one. I could be wrong, but I think Sony may have misinterpreted the signals.

Why do Sony and Microsoft always do this shit. They release a console and constantly make new upgrades after people spend 100s for a new console. They newer upgrades are severely over priced (xbox 360 hard drive) and people buy those, then they turn around a release something even bigger. It pisses me off. I wish game consoles were still as simple as they used to be. Would be nice to have just a gaming console again, not something that does everything.
