Brutal Legend lands on weekly SF newspaper cover

Double Fine's rock masterpiece is garnering coverage outside of the gaming realm, as it has made the cover of the popular weekly newspaper the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
While I love posting news online, there is a part of me that will always love print media. Whether it be the stacks of gaming magazines adorning my cubicle, coffee table, and stuck in my parents basement or my ink-smudged fingers from reading Newsday every morning during my New York commuter days, I can't get enough of the hastily-printed page. My current non-gaming print obsession comes in the form of San Francisco's two weekly newspapers--the San Francisco Bay Guardian and the SF Weekly, both of which land on newsstands every Wednesday. You can imagine my excitement when I saw this on the cover of the SFBG.
Those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, do yourselves a favor and pick up the issue. Those of you who don't can read the story on SFBG's website. And all of you can check out the author's extended interview with Tim Shafer here.
While Brutal Legend has received its fair share of positive feedback from the gaming media, including an editors' choice from GamePro, it's nice to see non-gaming media pick up on this amazingly rocking game. I've sent questions out to the author and Tim Schafer himself about how this cool coverage came together.

This is good news for video games but I can't stand Jack Black and his tired schtick. He plays the exact same character in every movie and I for one hat his rock persona/band Tenacious D.

My how times have changed. What does that say, when a video game has reached the front page of a newspaper? Back when video games were getting notice in the late 70's/early 80's this was happening all over the place. One near-death experience, the witnessing of Whitehorse Nintendo's resuscitation of the industry and a monumental-rise-to-stardom later,we now have a video game on the front page again. Only this time it is truly a sweet victory for gaming. Cry all you want about the violence and the oft-times foul language, but I'd say the people have spoken!

Sweet! It's a great concept, and a great game... and it deserves all the attention it's getting. All my PSN friends are playing Uncharted 2, but I'm happy with BrĂ¼tal Legend for now.
