Dark Void includes car contest, Nikola Tesla NPC

Why is Capcom running a car contest for a game based on jetpack flight? We interviewed the Dark Void team to find out more about the game's connection to Tesla Motors.

Dark Void includes car contest, Nikola Tesla NPC

When previews editorial assistant Heather Bartron and video editor Chris Parisi volunteered to attend a Dark Void demo despite Capcom's refusal to disclose the location, we were a bit curious. After all, the game is about a pilot who mysteriously dicovers an alternate universe after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle. Thankfully, the risk of losing two of our employees forever paid off, as they were able to discover more about the game and its unique ties to the real-life Tesla Motors company, and return that information to us in video format.

Heather got to speak with Capcom producer Morgan Gray and learned some of the details of the game's connection to the electric car company. The biggest revelation is that yes, Capcom and Tesla are teaming up to give away an electric car priced at over a hundred thou, but this is more than just a marketing partnership. Famed inventor Nikola Tesla actually appears as a non-playable character in the footage. He may not have the cultural cache of Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5, but he lends the game a lot of scientific cred, nonetheless.

Plus, if anyone from his family decides to object, at least their arguments will be way more coherent. The video interview is embedded below.
