Capcom asks fans how they want RE5 update distributed

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition is coming to the U.S., and the publisher wants your opinion on how it should be distributed.

American Resident Evil fans will be pleased to hear that Capcom intends to bring the latest version of Resident Evil 5 to U.S. shores, and are seeking user input on how the company should distribute the expanded content.

Capcom crowsources Resident Evil 5 business strategy

Resident Evil 5 was one of the first titles to announce support for PS3 motion controls.

Titled Biohazard 5 Alternative Edition in Japan, the updated game includes a new mission featuring Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine and support for the currently unnamed Sony PS3 motion controller (no word on whether the eventual Xbox 360 port will support Natal.)

"Since you will ultimately be the people buying and playing this new content, we've decided that you should be the ones telling us how to make it available," wrote Chris Kramer in a blog post on Capcom's site this morning. His post accompanies a poll which invites customers to choose between receiving the new content via download or a new physical disc.

Don't get lost in the crowd, make your voice heard on how you want to purchase new content.

Users must be registered members of Capcom Unity and logged in to vote, and the poll is predicted to run for "a few weeks" before Capcom decides how to bring the new content to foreign shores. The game comes first to Japan as a standalone product, but Kramer acknowledges that "the demand for DLC in the west is huge. More and more, gamers in North America and Europe want content immediately and are less inclined to be tied to boxes and packages."

THE VERDICT by Alex Wawro Alex Wawro's Avatar It's great that Capcom is offering consumers a choice in how they want to receive new content, but I hope the publisher will offer both versions and thus avoid ostracizing a portion of their customer base.

Offer it as both a download and disc, and make the disc version a little more expensive but include a few extras.

im a major RE fan boy so i noted that they used moonlight sonata by bethoven in the vid, which they used in the original re where either jill or rebecca could play it to open a hidden door. Also the crank thing refers to the original as well

As long as I don't have to buy another copy of Resident Evil 5 to play an expansion, I don't care how its distributed. Another thing, I really hope capcom doesn't start making a bunch of games all called Resident Evil 5 with more words added to the title, becuase I hate when game developers do that shit. I usually just quit playing them when that happens.

sooooo, once again lamepro puts cross-platform news (even slightly Sony-centric this time, there's a picture of the motion controller even) under 360 news.
Imagine if they posted some news with a picture of Natal in Sony news, would never happen.
epic EPIC fail twice in two days. Hopefully buddy-boy their new editor will end these shenanigans.
Would love to play RE5 with the motion control.

maybe because the PS3 version of the Alternative Edition is using the full potential. it was said the 360 version will have to optimize a different approach. therefore, the PS3 version is the actually version that CAPCOM is working full benefits for, but isn't leaving out the those who want it on 360, they'll just have to deal with a different approach.

sooo, yeah..that's why its under the PS3 section.

Well, they are the Street Fighter makers, so your dilemma might come true. A new version of Resident Evil 5 every year for the next 7 years, lol.
