Publisher files for movie trademark, suggesting summer blockbuster based on the popular franchise.
Activision has filed a trademark reserving the rights to a Call of Duty movie according to a post yesterday on trademark information site Trademork.
The saga of 'Soap' MacTavish is coming soon to a theatre near you.
Coincidentally, Infinity Ward's outspoken community manager Robert Bowling released a cryptic update on his Twitter feed the same day hinting at the possibility of bringing the popular game franchise to film, stating:
First round of meetings in Paris wrapped. Grabbing lunch with Xavier Gens, director of the Hitman film while in town. Talking game films.
If approved, the trademark reserves for Activision all applications of the Call of Duty moniker as they relate to "pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation." Given the anonymous report published in The Hollywood Reporter last May and the incredible sales of the Call of Duty franchise (Activision claims Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold more than 13 million units) a summer blockbuster seems like a sure thing. While we wait for the inevitable film adaptation, take a look at the most recent Modern Warfare 2 trailer for a sneak peek at what to expect when Call of Duty hits the silver screen.

funny i was just thinkin this yesterday after seeing the trailer for the single player campaign.it seems inevitable.the game trailer reeks of blockbuster action war films.if done right and very similar to mw and mw2 the movie could actually hold promise.just sign a great director on to it.that nows how to make a gripping war movie.other wise it will be a failure of epic proportions.which call of duty doesnt need on its resume.

(sniff) (sniff) If it's like the fabled Halo movie and Gears movie, this will not see the light of day.
Even if it goes into production, something will happen, like the Halo movie.
Even if it hits theaters, I'd be willing to bet it will suffer the fate of many a video game based movies before it. A bomb of atomic proportions.
I do like watching the new trailer though. Looks as though we have to take the White House from the UltraNationalists. I hope that actually makes it to a multiplayer map. That would be awesome fighting outside the White House, using the Washington memorial as a campsite (I hate campers!), and using Mr. Lincoln's memorial as a cross-firing site.
We are 1 month and 5 days from its release at the time of this writing.
By the way, could you honestly seeing Tank Dempsy singing? I could see the gang of four shooting zombies, but singing while they do it?

The games are like movies already and I also thought of a modern warfare movie after watching the latest trailer.

Nope, the Gears of War movie is all but cancelled. Didn't you watch the panel at comic-con? It's still in progress. They also mentioned that there will be no wrestlers in the movie as well.
Now as for the COD movie it could be good or bad. Seeing as how the Call of Duty series borrows from other war movies it would be like a hybrid Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers, Platoon, We Were Soldiers thing
