New hope for Old Republic open beta
- September 29, 2009 00:00 AM PST
Beta signups begin for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Bioware and LucasArts announced open season today for beta testers eager to explore Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Choose to side with the Empire or the Republic in Bioware's upcoming Star Wars MMO.
The developers have not announced a release date for the MMORPG, and those interested in applying for a tester position need to jump through a few hoops to get their name on the list:
- 1. Register an account at the official TOR site.
- 2. Sign up as a pre-release tester and fill out the requisite forms.
- 3. Submit a system scan.
- 4. Pray.
The LucasArts press release anticipates massive public demand and warns potential testers that beta spots "are limited, so people need to sign up early to give them the best possible chance of getting selected."
UPDATE: The site is currently down due to massive demand (unsurprising after public response to the E3 announcement,) but visitors are assured the team is "making adjustments to the site due to the overwhelming response to the testing announcement."

I'm a huge MMO fan, and I was a huge SWG fan before they destroyed that game. To say I'm excited about TOR is an understatement. I just hope I get into beta. Heres to hoping.

I'm actually having huge problems signing up. The website is up, but once I start the system scan, it tells me what my computer has but will not send in the scan...
