Sony attempts to generate hype for the impending PSP Go launch abroad with news of a PSP-3000 price drop and an upgrade incentives program.
Two bits of PSP news came out of TGS today, and while both are directed at foreign markets they provide an interesting look at Sony America's possible business plan when the PSP Go launches next month.
First, Sony advertised a price drop for the Japanese PSP-3000 hardware. The handheld (still $169 in the U.S.) is now about $185 in Japan, discounted from $219 in preparation for the release of the PSP Go. At these new price points the PSP Go is only $100 more expensive than the old model, leading to rumors of a similar price drop in North America.
A PSP-3000 price drop was announced weeks before the PSP Go launch.
Second, Sony is rewarding European PSP owners who upgrade to the Go model with the promise of three free downloadable games. Starting next month, European consumers have until March 31, 2010 to verify their UMD ownership and claim a voucher good for three free games. According to a post on the company's website, the registration process involves logging your old PSP hardware (with a UMD in the drive) into PSN, downloading a PSP Go theme and registering your account for the PSP Go Rewards program. Program members receive a voucher for three free games from the following:

That is the problem. I want to trade my current PSP for a PSP Go but I need my old PSP to claim my games. That's problematic.

The images of the PSP Go make my hands hurt. I'll stick with the older model. I'm done with handhelds. The trend is to go smaller, which I guess I like, but as an adult, not comfortable. Right now my most comfortable handheld is the Sega Nomad, but it's beyond huge.

$250?!?!?!?! are you kidding me
for that price i can.....
buy a 360 elite with no money left
buy a wii and save $50
spend $50 more and get a ps3
or buy a ds and save a boatload of money
3 free games are not enough to justify a purchase on that price point
