Microsoft offers $50 discount on 360 Elite
- September 22, 2009 00:00 AM PST
Starting today all XBox 360 Elite consoles are eligible for a $50 mail-in rebate until October 5th.
Microsoft dropped a press release this morning publicizing a mail-in rebate deal for the XBox 360. Starting today all purchases of the Elite system (recently reduced from $399 to $299) are eligible to claim a $50 rebate after visiting the offer website and mailing in the requisite forms and proofs of purchase. The offer ends October 5th, but if you're too lazy to mail your claim in right away (and you are, Microsoft is counting on it) you can still squeak by as long as your rebate is postmarked by November 20th. Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery, limit 1 per household.

Microsoft. Very good move. It's funny how MS and Sony plays this 1 up you game with the 360 and PS3.

Not bad! Elite for $250. That's a pretty good deal. The Call of Duty Special Edition xbox is also a good deal. If you are willing to drop 400 smackers! For $100 more than the newly priced Elite (minus this mail-in rebate) you get more than double the hard drive space, 2 controllers, and the Limited edition CoD game. It's a pretty big savings! For those of you that don't have $400 and want a 360, this mail-in rebate is a great deal!

THE VERDICT by Alex Wawro Alex
First Microsoft conveniently drops the Elite to $299 when the PS3 Slim is announced at the same price point, and now a rebate headed into the holiday season? Smells like a smart business move.
it Smells like Microsoft filling the heat knowing that the Elite don't match up against the PS3 straight out of the box at $299. this Mail in rebate is nothing but a gimmick to get the Elite and Halo to sale.

I agree with you that they are feeling the heat. As much as I love my 360 over my PS3, the PS3 at $300 is a much better buy than the 360 Elite at $300 right now.

really, how many times can you say the same thing. The red ring has been gone from new xbox's for a long time now. Every post about the 360, has to have at least one ps3 fanboy complain about RROD. How is that Yellow ring of death on your ps3 doing ?
