While Square-Enix has nailed down a December 17 release date for Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, a more ambiguous Spring 2010 window is being aimed for a US release.

Final Fantasy XIII's US release date is as vague as this character's gender.

Square-Enix held a press conference in Japan yesterday night (which was actually Tuesday--WTF?) where the company debuted a new trailer for its highly-anticipated upcoming RPG, Final Fantasy XIII. While that still isn't available to the public, some juicy details have made their way out.

Square used the occasion to finally nail down a release date for FFXIII in Japan, slating the game for a December 17 release date. When it came to the US release, however, Kotaku reported that Square-Enix CEO Yochi Wada is hoping for a quick translation turnaround for FFXIII, as he stated "In the past, it's taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring".

With the title scheduled to come out on two consoles here (no Xbox 360 version of FFXIII is planned for Japan), Square's got a lot of work ahead of them to get this game out in the US. GamePro will continue to keep you updated on the game's progress.

Spring of next year, huh? By that time, we'll be a good 3 1/2 years into this console generation, which is a pretty long wait for the first HD Final Fantasy. Talk about high expectations.

Cool. Well, hopefully Square keeps their word on a Spring release date. Gamers have waited long enough.

holy balls i have waited long enough... wasn't the initial release date (when they started talking about it however long ago that was) supposed to be last year? Then they moved it to this past spring, then to this winter, now to next spring... what the hell I can't wait any longer! lol

Where have you been the last 15 years? Square has NEVER released a FF game on time.

I know from history. FF games never come out as fast they do over there. And it will be a big game I heard. And I hope they get it right on the nose with this. Becoues I like to play this on my XBOX 360.

I don't mind that this game is coming to the 360...okay maybe I do...but I still think they should have waited for the PS3 release first before deciding to put it on the 360. That way the true fans of the series would be able to play it first and not wait for the trials and errors that come with translating this game for another console.

Yeah I know, square can shove it! They been making a lot of crap lately so my expectations are really low.
