Okami Sequel Confirmed on DS

Capcom confirms development on Okamiden, to be released on DS in 2010.

Okami fans, take heart; recent scans of this week's Famitsu reveal the first screenshots of Okamiden, confirming the rumors of a new DS sequel.

Okami Sequel Confirmed on DS

Okami's unique art style seems tailor-made for the DS.

According to the article, players assume the role of Chibiterasu, a divine being who looks suspiciously like a pint-sized version of previous protagonist Amaterasu.

How the sequel will utilize the dual-screen interface remains to be seen, but Okamiden is expected to deliver the same action-adventure gameplay as the first title. The Celestial Brush and Imperial Regalia are still present, though players are now able to manipulate the brush using the DS stylus for a more authentic touch. New to the sequel is the addition of a partner system, and gamers can expect to pick up a number of allies throughout the game who will aid Chibiterasu in battling demons and solving puzzles.

Okamiden is in the hands of one of Capcom's internal development teams, including staff members who worked on porting the original PS2 title to the Wii. A playable demo of the game is expected at the Tokyo Game Show in September.

Not quite what I expected, but the DS is a perfect fit the Celestial Brush powers. Now if they could just come up with a better name than Chibiterasu.

Got Okami for Wii and it's pretty good. Very similar to Zelda TP. DS seems to be a perfect fit for this game for graphics and controls.
