Bioshock movie gets director of 28 Weeks Later

Variety reports that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo of 28 Weeks Later fame will helm the movie adaptation of the underwater thriller Bioshock.

With little time to go before another Bioshock game extends its watery hand to gamers, Variety has announced that Universal is pushing for 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to take on the film adaptation of Bioshock. We previously reported that Gore Verbinski would be helming the adaptation, and it appears from the recent news that he will stay on as producer.

The article also notes that while Universal is getting behind Fresnadillo, publisher Take-Two will have the ultimate say over who directs. Though the movie is sure to be a ways off, gamers can expect Bioshock 2 in early 2010.

THE VERDICT by Andy Burt Andy Burt's Avatar We realize there's a large amount of scratch to be made from the movie adaptation of such a loved video game, but I predict worldwide gamer-cringing if this doesn't live up to the high-brow story found in the game. Which it won't. Oh well, at least Uwe Boll didn't get his grubby fingers on this one, amirite?

I've not seen 28 Weeks Later, so I can't judge how the movie'll be, but I am glad Uwe Boll isn't partaking in this movie. I am so very Glad!

Dang, i really hope that they don't mess this movie up, but as Mr. Andy Burt said, they probably will. It seems nearly impossible for anyone to make a good movie based on a game. They should pretty much just act out the game word for word and i'd be satisfied, then they wouldn't screw it up at least.

for a second i thought danny boyle (28 DAYS later instead of 28 WEEKS later) was gonna direct and i orgasmed all over the keyboard.....i guess that was premature

Come on not all adaptations are bad. Look at Doom for instance. Oh wait nevermind.

im going to be so pissed if this doesnt atleast do semi good.hopefully the least they can do is stay as true to the story as possible and it come out decent.keeping my fingers crossed.hopefully this and spielbergs production of halo turns out to be the movies that finally do game adaptions justice.

28 weeks later was better than 28 days later, just better action and more engrossing. I can't wait for this movie now.
