Kotaku reports Activision has announced that a Nintendo Wii version of their critically acclaimed shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is coming soon. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which drops the number 4 from its title, will be released on the Wii November 10, 2009, the same day Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases on PS3, Xbox 360, PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the Wii is being developed by Treyarch, the team who worked on Call of Duty: World at War and the secret Call of Duty 7 game that was previously rumored to be a Call of Duty game set during the Vietnam War.

There's still no word whether the omission of the number 4 has anything to do with the game itself, but GamePro will keep you updated if Modern Warfare for the Wii contains any bonus content not included in the original game.

The Wii version of Call of Duty: World at War remains to be one of the best selling games for the console, surpassing over a million copies sold, which could explain why a CoD4 port is coming so late after its initial release.

Maybe because there are a lot of people who own an Wii and only a Wii, and would like to play more games like this? Even if the game is two years old, there are still a lot of people who haven't played it.

Plus it means that World at War sold well on the Wii, which means more games like this can make their way to the console.

pretty nice for the wii owners there probably gonna get alot of new content that isnt if the ps3 and xbox 360 versions

If the Wii version retains all of the multiplayer features and maps (including the DLC maps) of the 360 version, and throws in some new stuff to boot I'll probably pick this up. They need to give gamers who already played the hell out of COD 4 a reason to get this again if they want it to sell.
