EA scoops UFC, signs Fedor Emelianenko to MMA title

EA Sports has just scored a huge headliner for their upcoming MMA title, successfully signing M-1 Global's top-ranked heavyweight champion, Fedor Emelianenko.

Despite UFC President Dana White's claims that EA Sports "doesn't give a [expletive] about mixed martial arts," the company has officially scored a major victory for their upcoming MMA title with the acquisition of Fedor Emelianenko, according to MMA blog Sherdog.

Fedor Emelianenko, WAMMA's (World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts) current heavyweight champion, is widely recognized as one of the world's top three MMA fighters. With a record of 30 wins in 32 fights over a decade-long MMA career, Fedor is essentially the Russian version of Superman and the Incredible Hulk combined. The UFC's had a long history with Fedor, having failed year after year to come to a contract agreement for fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship brand. But with the recent meltdown and cancelation of Fedor's latest championship match at Affliction's now-defunct "Trilogy" PPV event, contract talks recently fired up with more gusto.

If Fedor does sign with the UFC (and it's likely he will, at least for 3 fights), he will be the second MMA superstar to avoid Dana White's blacklist against contracted UFC fighters that sign with EA. The first was Randy "The Natural" Couture, whose Hall of Fame status and long tenure with the UFC/Dana White pretty much granted him the ability to sign with EA Sports MMA as he saw fit. Don't expect the same thing to happen with any more UFC talent, though, as EA Sports could potentially look to sign fighters from smaller MMA brands like Strikeforce, Shooto, Pride Fighting Championships, K-1 and DREAM.

In fact, that seems to be EA Sports' aim, as they have already signed popular MMA fighters such as Benji Radach, Gegard Mousasi and Tim Sylvia (and don't forget former WWE star and current TNA wrestler Bobby Lashley).

UFC's not going to be sitting on their heels, though, as they've indirectly announced that UFC 2010 is on the way, according to MMA Junkie's news about UFC's upcoming ports to the Nintendo Wii, DS and the PSP.

THE VERDICT by McKinley Noble McKinley Noble's Avatar Man, the rosters are definitely shaping up for one Hell of a slugfest. I think MMA fans everywhere will win with this kind of competition. If EA Sports is smart, they'll start signing female MMA fighters too.

Yep, although he tends to get his ass handed to him when going against powerful strikers, he'd be a great addition.

I really wish Fedor would stop procrastinating and just join with the UFC. This shit has been going on for far too long.

Most of the guys he lost to were usually 1 or 2 weight classes higher than him also.

It may bomb because of a lack of big name fighters, but I could care less about who is in it. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns has no licensed wrestlers in the game yet it completely blows away any WWE game on the market ever. If EA can do for MMA games what they did for boxing games that's all that matters to me.
