Bayonetta delayed, bumped to 2010 in North America

Western gamers looking forward to Sega's big action title will have a little longer to wait. Bayonetta's North American release has been officially pushed back to January 2010, while Japan still gets a release this fall.
Sega's latest press release brings bad news for the upcoming super-sexy action title Bayonetta, which has been delayed until January 2010. Originally scheduled as part of Sega's 2009 lineup, Bayonetta has now been slated for an "optimum release time" next year. However, if you happen to live in Japan (or prefer your games imported), Bayonetta will still be out across the Pacific this October.
Like several other high-profile titles, it seems like Bayonetta's release date is being pushed back in the hopes that 2010 will see a better economy, one where gamers actually have $60 to drop on a video game each week. That, and we're sure that Sega doesn't really want to go head-to-head with Batman: Arkham Asylum, Guitar Hero 5, Tekken 6, DJ Hero and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (yes, it's actually called Call of Duty again).
Sorry, Sega fans. This is as close to touching Bayonetta as you'll get until next year. What a tease!
It's all very official sounding, too. Peep the press release here:
SEGA can confirm that Bayonetta will release across Western Markets in January 2010. This follows the Japanese launch of the game dated for later this year on October 29th.
"Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential," said Mike Hayes, President and COO for SEGA West.
In fact, 2010 seems to be a new slate for most video game companies, as every publisher under the sun is holding their load until the year's out. Even BioShock 2 got shelved for additional development time, even though it would likely sell like crazy no matter when it dropped. Sony alone is officially hedging all their bets on Uncharted 2, which Previews Editor Travis Moses seems to like just fine. God of War 3 wasn't seriously meant to be released this year, while MAG and Heavy Rain have been pushed back to avoid the holiday crush. We're also particularly sad about Red Dead Redemption, too, which has also been 2010-ed.

I said in the Forums here last week that mark my word, 9 out of 10 games are going to get delayed in the near future...partly due to CODMW2, as well as the economy, plus the NPD numbers were not encouraging...so if there is a sure fire mega hit, other devs don't want their game coming out anywhere near them... that's the kiss of death.
and what the fck is with the photo?... can you say dumb looking? librarian, more strange than sexy.

As if 2010 wasn't crowded enough with GoW3, and uh... yeah, that`s good enough. But now with Heavy Rain, MAG, Bioshock 2, and others getting pushed back, I think I should just hope for a lot of gift cards this Christmas. I`ll be getting Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 on day 1 anyway.

Hmmm. That's a little dissapointing, I was looking forward to this. Then again, I'm broke as a joke. Oh well. Only game I am really planning on getting as of now is CODMW2. I'll pass on Uncharted 2. The game is just to cheesy. Next year thought, GOW3, Bioshock 2, and Heavy Rain, all first day purchases for myself.

I wasn't planning on getting this game because of others coming out this year but now I might and I'll have more time to get bored of MW2 before buying another game. If I ever get bored of it...
