RUMOR: PS3 Slim video surfaces, claims 120GB HDD and other specs

The Sony rumors continue as a video was posted recently on YouTube which claims to show a legitimate PS3 Slim.

A new video showcasing what could potentially be a legitimate PS3 Slim has set the internets ablaze. Everyone has a theory, but what seems to be the only clear thing amongst the grainy footage is that the person in the video is holding something that looks pretty dang similar to that leaked PS3 Slim image released ages ago, and that his location in the video is apparently the Philippines.

New video surfaces of a PS3 Slim. Could it be real? Could it be fake? It's up for you to decide.

In his YouTube blurb, video author "TheLastDestroyer" writes:

"I'm sorry the video is very short and very low quality, but my phone is ancient and the memory is very low, but i hope you believe me when i say this is in now way a fabrication.

I found the PS3 slim at an underground market in the Philippines. They were selling it for roughly 250 pounds (converted from 20,000 PHP) with a Dualshock 3. More details at the website. (UltimatePlaystation.com)"

Of course, this could all be a hoax, as it's not uncommon for fake reproductions of hardware to be sold as legitimate. All the same, some people seem convinced, as one IGN member "best786" posted some tech specs which seem a bit curious.

What I know:

- It has a 120GB HDD.
- Two USB Ports
- The 'touch' button for eject and on seems to be gone, and there are now these random buttons.
- The ps icon is now white instead of colored.
- No more card reader
- PLAYSTATION 3 is gone, rather its PS3. It says this on the bottom as well for some reason.
- The guy was selling it with a Dualshock 3. Whether it is compatible is another matter.
- The guy was selling it for 20,000 pesos, which is roughly ?250, which is roughly $410

So, at this point who knows? It's looking more and more plausible a PS3 Slim is on the cusp of being announced, but again, there is way too much room for speculation to predict anything legitimate. And, with two Sony heads recently stating that there would be no PS3 price cut in the near future, maybe this whole thing is a stretch. But, then again, if Sony were to release a PS3 Slim, that would negate the need for a price cut, as the slimmer model would undoubtedly be cheaper to produce and sell. Time will tell, but for now, the PS3 Slim remains a mirage in our gaming desert.

you hit the nail on the head by saying if it is true the thing that matters to sony is it will be more cost effective to make.though im sure it would be more enticing to gamers who have yet to pick one up.

though its probably somethin some black market tech dealer put together to sell to idiots who would believe its the real thing in the phillipines.kinda like they do with jordans and nikes in swap meets.they look like the real thing but they are not.

Common sense would tell me that if there was a PS3 slim it wouldn't be for sale right now at some random store in the Philippines. I can't believe this is news.

That still is one ugly looking PS3, come on Sony please make PS3 slim design better then that, but i really don't like hearing this no more memory card reader, what is that about cause it doesn't sound good?, then why replace the touch eject button, that was another reason why i liked PS3 and Nintendo better then microsoft, cause you didn't have to push the eject button to take games out

you just had to touch it, man i'm going to miss these features

I dunno if that thing is real but in those swap meets you can find things that are not available in the market.... the reason? they are stolen items. I remember in the early 90's a friend that went to Mexico city came with all sorts of gadgets (like early mp3 players) that were not sold on best buy or other stores yet, or where hard to find.

I'm not sure if the video is real but there definitely will be a new model PS3 coming out this fall to replace the current model.
