Miyamoto: Mario Galaxy 2 will appeal to veteran gamers

Shigeru Miyamoto gives some insight into the world of Mario Galaxy 2, and how it will appeal to experienced gamers and newcomers alike.

In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Shigeru Miyamoto sheds some light on Mario's forthcoming outing, Super Mario Galaxy 2. Miyamoto points out that though Galaxy 2 will "be accesible to new gamers," he feels that more hardcore types will find great appeal in the upcoming game. Miyamoto also hopes that gamers who've played through Super Mario Galaxy will have become "better" by the time Galaxy 2 ships.

I do believe that there is a lot here to appeal to the more veteran and more experienced gamers, and I think it's a title that they will obviously enjoy, but I really took it into consideration and tried to do our best to create a game that's accessible to new gamers as well. And, you know, we also built it with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players.

Though no date has been clearly set in stone, Super Mario Galaxy 2 should be reaching North American shores sometime in 2010.

THE VERDICT by Andy Burt Andy Burt's Avatar I thoroughly enjoyed the first Galaxy, and I definitely have high expectations for the sequel. While I felt the first title definitely had its share of challenging moments, it'd be a stretch for me to consider it a game for "hardcore" gamers. We'll have to wait and see what Galaxy 2 brings to the plate.

I would say the same thing about part 1, people who don't play video games couldn't just pick up the controller and start playing it. It's a video game, just because it has a character like Mario doesn't make it a non hard core casual game.

Even if it's just more of the same from Galaxy 1... I can't freakin wait. Galaxy is one of my all time favorite games for any system.

I'll probably still pick this up, but I'm still baffled by this move. Nintendo's always done something new with their main Mario games. I can't help but wonder if this was rushed forward because they needed something to appeal to hardcore gamers and Galaxy was a noted success.

I see this being made so miyamoto can get all his ideas in this time and to shut up the gamers who think nintendo is giving up on them.

I thought the same thing. No 2 Mario games were ever alike. Except for the 1st Super Mario from 1985, and part 2 that only came out in Japan in 1986.

Being able to ride yoshi again is just brilliant. First galaxy is wonderful and the sequel has a lot to live it up but it can do it.
