The game studio responsible for giant franchises like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein is bought out by Bethesda's parent company.
Kotaku reports that Bethesda Softworks (Fallout 3, Oblivion) parent company ZeniMax Media has just purchased id Software (Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, Rage). The article reveals that while id Software has officially been acquired by ZeniMax, none of id's normal operations, including the development of their games will be changed.
"We're really getting kind of tired competing with our own publishers in terms of how our titles will be featured. And we've really gotten more IPs than we've been able to take advantage of. And working with other companies hasn't been working out as spectacularly as it could."
"So the idea of actually becoming a publisher and merging Bethesda and ZeniMax on there [is ideal.] It would be hard to imagine a more complementary relationship. They are triple A, top-of-the-line in what they do in the RPGs. And they have no overlap with all the things we do in the FPSes." - John Carmack, co-founder of id Software.

Harsh Patrick, Doom 3 was fun!
It was fun....except for not being able to use a flashlight and fire a gun at the same time. Oh, and enemies that magically spawned behind you like Jason Vorhees in his prime. But beside that, Doom 3 was alot of fun.

Oh fast on the key stroke & creative.
Great wit & comment to show you liked the game...
Are you working on a book by chance?
As far as the buyout its kinda suprising but it'll be great to know id isn't going to have to burn time and resources on dealing with a publisher.
At least not after the prebuyout agreements of Wolfenstein being published by Activision and the EA publishing of Rage are met.

It's too bad I never finished Doom3. But I started playing it on my 360. (never had the 1st xbox) I did finish Quake4 and that game seemed to go on FOREVER! Quake4 was the 1st game I actually wanted a game to end, it just kept going and going. PLEASE id don't make another Quake make a NEW ip, a new doom and wolfinstine is good enough for sequals. Maybe try out a game that is more realistic. like Rainbow six or Call of Duty. More of a realistic online multiplayer then quake, don't get me wrong I'll always remember the days of Quake 3 arena. But I think those type of games are fading. I'm playing Unreal Tournement 3 right now and you CAN'T find a room with all real people. it's always a couple people and the rest are bots. I don't know, do whatever you want. But if another quake comes out, im not getting it and I know A LOT of other people that think the same way. Food for thoughts!

I don't know what to think on this one. The up and coming greats of the world of RPG's, paired with the has been of FPS fame. The both build strong engines also. I don't particularly love the recent work of ID, but you can't deny their talent.
