'Faster' Xbox Live Dashboard in next update confirms Major Nelson

Larry Hryb, or Major Nelson as he's more commonly known, revealed in his latest podcast that he and the Xbox Live team will be working to make a "faster" guide coming up in the next proper Xbox 360 dashboard update.

There has been a lot of frustration with the sometimes-sluggish menu flipping of the New Xbox Experience, but Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) confirmed via his podcast, that: "We are making the guide faster" and that he is "intimately involved" in it's development.

"The team has done some really good stuff around making performance enhancements. 'Performance enhancements' doesn't sound right because it sounds like we're going to give the guide a little blue pill, and we're not doing that.

"Whatever we call it (and it's not going to be called the NNXE), but whatever the next version of the dashboard is called, it's better with a lot of very cool new features. That update will be out later this year"

'Faster' Xbox Live Dashboard in next update confirms Major Nelson

Xbox Live Dashboard to be 'Faster' after next update.

It was also revealed that Zune HD video streaming, Avatar Marketplace and Games on Demand (a download service for full 360 games) are among some of the new big features expected.

Some have speculated that this faster dashboard improvement will prepare the system for the release of Project Natal, allowing players to use hand gestures to flip through menu's somewhat like Tom Cruise in Minority Report. While this seems like a cool idea, it may lead to a whole new set of dashboard frustrations. But again, this is just speculation.

Expect the new update to be available later this year.

nice.hopefully it does work well with natal, because if it didnt it would take some of the fun out of the launch.their best bet is to see to it that the interface runs smoothly.

When I press the guide button in the middle of a game lobby it's always slow except for when I'm playing 1 vs 100. During that game the guide button features are super fast.

I thought I was the only one who bitched about the laggy menus on live. Seriously, you have to wait forever sometimes for them to pop up. It's been 4 years, and now they are fixing it for Natal. Well better late then never. That is one thing I have to give the PS3 props on. Their menus are always very fast. Downloads on the PS3, that is a very very different story. 15 minutes at a time is nuts. And no, it's not my connection.

I agree that sometimes the menus are slow. Although it is mostly when I'm running a game simultaneously, so I can kinda understand.

Why do Games on Demand offers 360 games only? There are original xbox games that i would like to download, like Need for Speed Underground 2. But before doing that, Microsoft should improve the emulation of old games on the 360.
