GTA: Chinatown Wars coming to PSP with new missions

Rockstar announced today that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be making its way to the PSP and PSP GO this fall. The game will be made available through PSN as a digital download and as a UMD disc. The once DS-exclusive will also include updated graphics, including new lighting effects and "upscaled" graphics to make use of the PSP's 16:9 aspect ratio, and Rockstar promises new missions unavailable on the DS, as well as updated animation. Though the DS version enjoyed less than stellar sales for a GTA title, its yet to be seen how the portable will fare on the PSP market. See below for the full press release, and look for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars this fall.

New York, NY - June 22, 2009 - Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that one of the highest-rated handheld games of all time, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, will be making its way to the PSP(r) (PlayStation(r)Portable) handheld entertainment system. Developed by the award-winning studio Rockstar Leeds, in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be available at retail on UMD(r) and digitally from the PlayStation(r)Network in North America and Europe this fall.

"We're proud to extend this truly unique handheld Grand Theft Auto experience to PSP and offer a downloadable version of Chinatown Wars for PSP(r)go," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Rockstar Leeds has shown incredible talent in creating games that raise the bar in terms of depth and innovation on portables, and with Chinatown Wars we have a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series."

"Rockstar's work with the GTA series has been an enormous part of the success of PlayStation platforms," said Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. "We're excited to welcome the critically acclaimed Chinatown Wars to the outstanding line-up of great games headed to the PSP platform this fall."

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars follows the story of Huang Lee, a young Triad who travels to Liberty City after the mysterious death of his father. Within the game, players will navigate their way through the streets as they uncover the truth behind an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate, delivering the unprecedented amount of depth that has become a true trademark of the franchise. Specifically built for the PSP platform with upscaled widescreen graphics, enhanced lighting and animation; and including all-new story missions; this version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will take full advantage of the power of the PSP system.

Well, I'm glad to see that more GTA games are being manufactured for the PSP, especially after San Andreas. That was probably one of the hardest hitting titles for the PSP, and alomost all of my friends own it.

They had to do this. Otherwise they would have lost tons of money due to the poor Ds sales of this game.

SilentGhosteye

that means it may also appear on PS2 or Wii since most PSP games are also on those consoles

Crunch40

This sucks, it's just another reason for SONY/R* fanboys to bash Nintendo.

I didn't know the PSP version of San Andreas came out already. I guess I better start reading more newspapers or something lol.

Yeah, fanboys suck. All they do is bash the systems and software of companies they don't like. In my opinion all of the current generation systems have their pros and cons.

They should have brought this game first to the PSP and not the DS. The DS is not suited for games like this. I didn't have fun playing this on the DS. No wonder it didn't sell a lot of copies. Now, they're making sense bringing this to the PSP. Now, they will make money.

At first I was shocked and disappointed at this games sales. Then I played it and quickly found out why it did so bad. Not a game I'd recommend and it obviously won't change much even on the psp.

ugh dude GTA: Chinatown wars suffered bad sales on the DS. Rockstar knows they made a mistake bringing it out on the ds, and will never do that mistake again. There just trying to save what's left! or may I say cash in for their mistake?? They know GTA sells on psp like HOT CAKES, so it's not a bad move on their part. YES the game would be different from the ds version. for starters, psp version won't have touch controls or lame graphics. It would be up-scaled to fit the powerful engine of the psp, and extra Game missions.. Can't wait for this game to come out this fall.. DAY 1 !!!!
