Analysts predicts Modern Warfare 2 will sell 7.8 million units in first week

With arguably the biggest marketing and advertising push for a video game title, and its already established buzz, analysts predict Modern Warfare 2 will easily be the biggest and best-selling entertainment release of all time.
According to analysts, the sequel to 2007's successful shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be the biggest entertainment release of all time, topping currently held records by Grand Theft Auto IV (which in turn topped previous champ Halo 3).
Analyst Mike Hickey of Janco Partners said of Modern Warfare 2's potential success "It's possible that the game could be one of the largest entertainment releases of all time. If you assume similar channel unit sales velocity as ['Grand Theft Auto IV'], the game could potentially sell through 7.8 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $569 million in the first week... It's possible the game could sell through to consumers 4.6 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $338 million in the first day." If Hickey's predictions hold true in the end, Modern Warfare 2 would topple Grand Theft Auto's first day sales record of $310 million, which is currently the biggest entertainment release (video game or otherwise) in history.

To put this in perspective, the current record holder for the biggest entertainment release for film is The Dark Knight, which took in $158 million in its first weekend. It's pretty astounding that games such as Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV have had first day sales that almost double that. If analysts' predictions end up even close, Modern Warfare 2 should end up a huge success come November.

I wouldn't doubt it! This will probably be the greatest FPS ever made. Can't wait! It's so nerve racking having to wait 2 years for Infinity Ward's CoD product. I'm about sick of CoD WaW :(

You can't compare video game grosses to those of movies. $10 vs $60 think about it. I had no idea GTA 4 sold more than Halo in the first say? Of course it is multi platform. If any game deserves to be #1 it is MF2.

rofl, thats what they said about the ghost busters game (there won't be a difference in grafx) & yet the majority of 360 bs3 multi-plat games...(are better on the 360) & to add insult to injury, sony pictures owns the rights to Ghostbusters... so given the track record, u know what to expect. Have fun playing a dumbed down version of MW2. Lesbian. lol.

You have to admit somethings fundamentally wrong with the management of a company that owns the itellectual property rights (GhostBusters/Sony Pictures) & yet releases the game w/ inferior grafx on their own console, which is suposedly is the more powerful console. Oh the irony.
