PSPgo European Manager talks: New functions, UMD transfer, battery life 'equivalent' to current PSP

In a Q&A article released on PlayStation Blog, European Product Manager for the PSPgo Adam Grant, answered some questions about the upcoming portable and revealed, amongst many other things, that the PSPgo's battery life will be 'equivalent' to the current PSP.

Those in favor of the decision to axe the use of the battery draining UMD drive may find some disconcerting news from European Product Manager of the PSPgo, as he revealed in a Q&A on PlayStation Blog that the PSPgo's battery life will be 'equivalent' to the original PSP.

"We have adopted an embedded battery to realise a smaller and lighter PSP system. The battery life is equivalent with the current models meaning approximately 3 to 6 hours for gameplays and approximately 3 to 5 hours for playing back videos."

PSPgo European Manager talks: New functions, UMD transfer, battery life 'equivalent' to current PSP

PSPgo to have new features, UMD transfer, and battery life the equivalent to the current PSP.

However, the PSPgo, while similar to the PSP-3000 in battery life, does command some new features, namely:

*Game sleep function: You will be able to operate the XMB? (XrossMediaBar) while suspending the gameplay temporarily.
*Bluetooth function: This is going to let you use your favourite wireless head phones to listen to music, play games and watch videos?.
*Clock and calendar application: We have included a clock and calendar application which can be viewed both when the sliding panel is open and closed.

And those wondering about the ability to transfer their UMD's to the new system can rest assured, as Grant confirmed Sony is planning a goodwill program:

"We know that there are many of you excited about PSPgo but are hesitant at leaving your UMD games collection behind. We recognize this and as such we are planning a goodwill programme and will unveil more details soon.

We also know that there are many already released UMD games that you may not own but want to play in the future on your PSPgo. To make this happen we are considering every possibility to bring downloadable versions for the majority of past titles available only in UMD to the PlayStation Store along with all new releases. We will announce further details on this. -Adam Grant, European Product Manager"

Also included within the PSPgo box, will be a USB cable, AC adaptor, and Media Go Software. To help explain some of the organizing and storing capabilities offered on the PSPgo, Grant presented a video as seen below:

The PSP Go will arrive in North America and Europe on October 1, and will be priced at $250 .

i got media go already. Its just like the media manager, but the media manager is no longer in the play station website for you to download, so I guess the media go is going to replace the media manager. You can download Media Go at the play station website for free.

$250? Pfft. I could get...lets see...two Nintendo DSs, an Xbox 360, a Wii, a new DSi+a game, and so many other things... Everything looks okay, but the price is ridonkulous.

The more they continue to release details on this thing, the more they are turning me off about it. I think I'm just gonna upgrade to a PSP 2000 or 3000. PSP Go is becoming less of an option. They really need to stop releasing info on this thing.

evil_bob

holy moly. the more I hear about it the more excited I get (contradictory to what ChitownShogun73 said). Now that I know you will be able to transfer UMD's to this thing I'm considering buying it to replace my old PSP. I don't know if $250 is worth it though....

Hey Everyone That's Complaining About The $250 Price Tag. Remember When The First PSP Came Out It Had The Exact Same Price Tag. The PSP Go Is A Far Better Deal Simply Because Instead Of The Crappy 32Mb Memory Stick That Came With The First PSP You Have 16Gb Internal Memory, Plus A Media Manager And An Extra USB Cable(Not That Anyone Needs Them But It's Still Included). Think About That Before Complaining,

he has a strong point. I was hesitant before bout buying the psp Go, but now I think im sold. It's true. the psp Go is the best deal, why??

Bluetooth
- 16GB Internal Memory
-smaller
-Media Go!
-Downloaded games (no reason to carry round boxes, and now sony is going to do a good-will program soon).

There's so much content on the Go! it's hard to ignore, it also has A USB cable thrown into it. I love my psp but the original looks long and bulky. (3000 series as well). Go! is sexier, smaller, more memory, and just basically new tech. This is just my opinion and I'm sure other people have there's.. Let's go October 1st lol.

$250? C'mon people. We pay more for games, our systems, and if you're an xbox 360 fan, our subscriptions and accessories when you add everything up together. Then, there's was an issue with it not having the ability to transfer UMD's (Technically it just wasn't mentioned....as I predicted.). Well, they're saying you can now......So I guess the price is the only problem (???).

Well, look what's in it. Bluetooth capability, wifi capability, 16GB of memory built in AND a USB cable. These things cost Sony money, so setting the price at $250 is understandable. They gotta eat to. The 1000, 2000, and 3000 didn't come with a USB cable, nor a Media Manager (I've had all three.). You had to purchase these things seperatly. Finding a 16GB memory stick would run you from $80 to $100 when it first dropped. Memory space costs money, people. But it's coming preINSTALLED. Giving you everything you'll need at once so you won't have to go out later to get these things and LONGER battery life since there's no UMD drive. Stop whinning, save up some dollars (Trust, you have time.) and just....go, lol.

Thats why all 3 of you are morons........so...you brought the psp 1000, 2000, and 3000. Why would I listen to a word you say? You were dumb enough to buy every iteration of psp with very little content. I will tell you why it is a horrible deal:

#1: Wifi is not a selling point if YOUR current model can do that

#2: Bluetooth? How many of you have wireless head phones? If you do you would know you need a base charger to funnel the sound to and from. And since you need an outlet, wireless on the go is out of the question. I guess it whats the be a console...its has a console price(see #6)

#3: it's smaller. I know atleast your pretend girlfriends tell you size matters. The screen size is what attracted you to it in the first place. Thats the presentation. And yes they could have slimmed and trimmed the psp while keeping its screen size.

#4: No second analog stick. I'm sure developers could add a dual control feature.

#5: No touch screen. We all have learned from ds's and the iphone touch and tilt are fun, and easy.

#6: Price. As formentioned in #2, the price is console price. You really want to pay more for less? And puhlesae. A mini usb cord is worth an extra $100? It's free with almost any cell phone or digital camera. You probably already have 4 at home. It's like 2 bucks at costco. Media Manager? 5 bucks at Sears. 7 dollars does not equal $100.

#7: You are not getting you umd's back, they will try to compensate you. New games maybe but maybe not? Do they compensate movies too? I doubt it.

#8: Go on Amazon and get 2 8gig pro duo sticks for 14 bucks a peice and dropping.

#9: Are you really going to buy another psp after getting burned by the psp 3000 faulty hardware and no fix. (M$ even fixes their crap)

#10: The buttons are in the wrong place again. Accidental cut offs? You betcha!

#11: The Pro duo sticks on the original hardware will give you longer battery life, seeing as though you want a boost right?

#12: Changes to its horrible browser? Nope, still the same old shitty browser.

BOTTOM LINE: You get to pay $250 plus tax for something you brought for $250 plus tax in 2004, and $180 plus tax in '07 and 179.99 pus tax in '08? No matter how many times you buy the Psp you're not going to like it anymore then you did after you were duped after the last 8 times you bought it. Good job sheep. Who's the audience for the psp Go? The same losers who would buy a used condom if it was sold with the name SONY on it's packaging.....
