Magic center Dwight Howard to grace NBA Live 10 cover

With Kobe Bryant capturing the cover of 2K Sports' NBA 2K10, rival publisher EA is putting a member of the Orlando Magic on its NBA Live 10 cover.

The Magic are down 2-1 to the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals and Kobe Bryant was announced as the cover athlete for 2K Sports's NBA 2K10, so what does EA Sports do? They go out and get the other NBA Finals superstar, Magic center Dwight Howard to serve as the coverboy for NBA Live 10.

Standing 6'11 and weighing 265 lbs, Howard was named the league's defensive player of the year this season averaging 2.9 blocks, 12.5 rebounds and 20.6 points per game; And all of this only at the age of 23!

"We?re extremely excited to have Dwight Howard on the cover of NBA LIVE 10," said the game's producer Marcus Stephenson. "A lot of us here in the studio have been playing the game with the updated Dynamic DNA against the Lakers, and he?s a force in LIVE.

Most critics agree that Live 09 left much to be desired and most gamers, looking for the best simulation of the sport possible, turned to NBA 2K9. Stephenson alludes to some of the improvements that the developers have been making which may confirm what EA Sports' president Peter Moore said weeks ago about Live once again becoming the best basketball sim on the market.

It appears that the dev team is working on everything from drastically improved net and rim physics to a bunch of other gameplay fixes that should excite fans including the next step in the evolution of Dynamic DNA.

THE VERDICT by Dave Rudden Dave Rudden's Avatar

I dare say that Dwight Howard is the best Orlando Magic video game cover athlete since Shaquille O'Neal in Shaq Fu.

First! I hope this game doesn't suck. NBA 2k10 will be the game to get, but I hope this game is at least rental worthy. Live 09 wasn't in my humble opinion. It has potential for sure

To bad I won't be coppin a Live game ever since 96...But I'm
mad I have to buy 2K10 with Kobe fuckin' ass on the cover
considerin i only play 2K Sports games

I wonder if being on the cover will improve his free throw percentages? Probably not, at least in Shaq-Fu there were no free throws to be shot.

When are they going to bring back Bill Laimbeer "Combat Basketball"? That would best both 2k and Live hands down!

If he would have just hit one free throw, the Magic would have won. I want Patrick Chewing to get a ring. I miss the Jordan era. Kobe obviously cannot dominate like Jordan on the biggest stage.

2K has destroyed the LIve franchise when it first came into the scene..that 'Trick Stick' by Live is outdated and has got to go...from graphics to the gameplay, to the customizations, 2K has just surpass it...however, one thing 2K does have to fix is online games...way too laggy at times (and it's not my connection..i got wireless...lol) Notice that when ESPN came into the scene with Live, they been 'second rate'..hint, hint, EA Sports..lol..
