Game Informer unveils a new manly piece of artwork from Max Payne 3 for their July 2009 issue.

Those awaiting the return of the king of bullet time can feast their eyes on the new (and improved?) Max Payne. Max has taken a turn down the Bruce Willis road it seems, sporting a bald head, grizzled beard, and a bloodied wife beater. And if that didn't convey enough machismo, below Max's gun toting hands reads the slogan, "Max Payne 3: Rockstar's Dark Hero Reborn."

New Max Payne 3 artwork revealed, rumored gameplay details included

Rockstar unveils a new piece of artwork that challenges the word 'Manliness' for July's Max Payne 3 Game Informer cover.

Apparently the game takes place 10 years after Max Payne 2, and rumor has it from Deeko news (though this is in no way confirmed, but mere speculation at this point) that Max Payne 3 will feature:

-An older, balder Max Payne, who is now addicted to pain killers, which in turn will affect the gameplay.
-The setting will be Sao Paulo, Brazil, with battles in "urban ghetto" locales.
-The game will have a "fully destructible environment," with "day and night cycles" and a cover system.
-Bullet Time is now "more visceral and ultra-violent."
-Online multiplayer is included, but no real details on it just yet.
-The game will be powered by Rockstar's RAGE technology (GTA4, Red Dead Redemption).

As Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games said back in March,

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

As it is, not much is "officially" known about the title, but we can expect some clarification on these rumors when the magazine hits shelves later this July.

Max Payne 3 is slated to hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in winter 2009.

THE VERDICT by Sean Mirkovich Sean Mirkovich's Avatar Max is looking pretty damn tough in his latest incarnation, but I can't help but see a striking resemblance to Jeff Bridges in last years Iron Man. Which also reminds me, why hasn't there been a Dude point and click adventure?

Max Payne is my favorite franchise ever. The first two games were a defining part of my teenage years, and I spent many, many hours firing and dodging bullets in slow-mo. Between this and Alan Wake, the tail end of 2009 and spring 2010 should be incredible. :)

The first two Max Payne's were two of my favorite Xbox games and the story was very compelling. This is why the movie made me feel so disappointed. But atleast they can make it up to me with this game. But Max sort of looks like Sam Fisher in that picture. Not sure if thats a good thing or not.

A totally different look for Max Payne. This making me wonder how he would have looked if he had a Mohawk instead. Loved the first one would play it with my cousin. Especially liked the bullet time one of the best things in the game. No Surprise he is addicted to painkillers now. And now he is in Brazil.
