The Xbox 360's hardware capabilities have been 'maxed out,' according to Patrick Soderlund, senior VP of EA Games Europe, while the PlayStation 3

Speaking to OXM UK at E3 2009, senior VP of EA Games Europe Patrick Soderlund told the outlet that "we'll see developers...getting to understand the PS3 better and I think that we're getting more power out of PS3 right now," adding, "I think that we've maxed out the 360 but we haven't maxed out the PS3."

Soderlund's comments refer to the Xbox 360 hardware, which is based off older technology than Sony's PlayStation 3, which has the benefit of a Blu-ray drive and a more powerful CPU in the Cell processor.

Solderlund began the comments by expressing admiration for SOny's E3 2009 game lineup, saying, "Sony has a lot of good games this year. If you go to their booth, there's a very consistent, high quality product line-up and that will help them."

Soderlund, though, is no Microsoft hater. "I like the Natal," he told OXM UK. "The Xbox 360 is my personal favorite console... I think Microsoft is on a roll right now."

THE VERDICT by Sid Shuman Sid Shuman's Avatar Here we go with this again. That said, I was quite impressed with the PS3's showing at E3 2009. Between God of War III and Heavy Rain, it's pretty clear that the PS3 is in the visual lead. Of course, graphic ain't everything...

Perhaps but they won't start until after I post. All I'm going to say is that the 360 has only been out for 3 and a half years so I seriously doubt it has peaked graphically. I think that it and the PS3 will continue to surprise us visually in the next few years. But even if it had peaked that wouldn't make me enjoy Halo: Reach or Gears 3 any less.

He is right. The Xbox has peaked. We might see some minor advancements in lighting or texturing, but we are never going to see that huge leap like we did with the original Gears of War. The PS3 on the other hand is a Powerful Beast that is still being tamed. Killzone 2, God Of War 3, Uncharted: Among Thieves, and Heavy Rain prove that it is already surpassing the 360's best, and it is only a matter of time before it blows it away completely. Its about time too, because as awesome as the 360 is, the PS3 and the Playstation Brand is where the heart and soul of gaming is.
