Sony has confirmed that every game the company publishes for the PSP starting October 1 will be available for download as well as on UMD.
IGN.com is passing along word that Sony will start to release all of its first-party titles in both UMD and downloadable format upon the release of the PSP Go on October 1. This is notable because the PSP Go's most notable change from its predecessors is that the device will forgo a UMD drive in lieu of 16GB of internal storage, along with expandable memory via a Memory Stick Duo slot.
Can you find the space on your PSP for this adorable creature?
Sony currently has 35 "UMD Legacy" titles available for download via PSN, ranging from $5.99 to $24.99. Many first party hits like Killzone: Liberation and LocoRoco are already available, while some past hits, like God of War: Chains of Olympus remain UMD only. Will the company open up its back catalog for the PSP Go's launch?
I'm all for making game purchases more accessible, but if I may make a suggestion, Sony? Pass the savings onto us. I've passed on purchasing PS3 and PSP games available on disc because, frankly, getting a disc, a case, and printed materials seemed like a much better value.

YES. I agree with Dave's Verdict 100%. There's no reason that downloading a game shouldn't be $5 cheaper than it's retail counterpart.

I hope they choose both and not download only, I'd be missing out on some good games. I'm old fashion and what if I want to play a game 10 years from now, I still have my original Atari 2600 and a bunch of games. Also prices are like downloaded movies, $15 for a download movie, I paid $15 for the same title on DVD, come on. $10 cheaper than retail, ok, maybe that would work but only $5 cheaper, not gonna happen. Also except for rich and the truly hardcore PSP Go is way too expensive, since the umd drive is gone it sould be cheaper perhaps for $130.

Preaching to the choir Dave. If a game cost 50% less, I'd consider downloading it instead of a physical purchase, but given most 1st party PSP titles end up in the clearance bin at Target, I'm better off waiting for that.
But eventually we won't have the choice, so enjoy the real stuff while you can.

Did anybody realize the new PSP GO looks almost exactly, like the new mylo® Internet Device COM-2BLACK version, that's pretty awesome. either way i'm getting the new PSP GO just to see how it's going to compare with that new Apple IPhone, which i think is called the 3GS or something like that

I really do not like the way future of gaming and movies are headed. Downloading add on or service pack is one thing but games and movies?
1) Growing up in the 80's with the NES i would have to save up $$ allowance just to buy a game. Wait for xmas or birthday to get a game. All friends were the same, and we liked the idea of trading games with each other. We would finish the game and return it back. There are too many crappy games out there and to buy without trying? renting is not the solution either.
2) Movies as well. Buy a blu-ray or a dvd, your sister or brother comes over and says "oh i like to watch this movie" you say ok i can lend you. Download we cannot do the same thing. Look how singstar is for the ps3? one console only. I have 4 ps3, 2 xbox360, 2 wii's in three countries b/c of my job. If everything was disc base i would be able to enjoy my download contents on singstar everywhere i go.
3) Internet service providers most of them have a cap. 100gigs per month or more? but never unlimited in North America, (unlike asia). Downloading a game with a cap doesn't make sense. As well hard drive of 60 gigs or 100 gigs? If you have 20 games of blu-ray which could be 25-60gigs? one would have to delete some games and when wanting play again have to use up the ISP cap.
PSP Go is where i draw the line. I will only support systems that will allow me to either back up my download and use it the way i want to without a cap, or give me the option of buying the disc, and if i want to have the convenience of downloading the game to play fine!

Wondering what (if anything) the 3rd-Party publishers will do about their previous releases?

I'm hoping the rumored UMD ripping kiosks in stores let you rip games to older-model PSPs and not just the Go. There are a lot of games that I'd like to play on memory stick because their loading times make the game irritating to play.

Can someone here answer this: Will you be able to backup your downloaded games via a usb mass storage device? I mean, you'll get to point of filling up that 16g hd and who wants to keep buying flash cards all the time when you can put all that into a huge external drive? If you can, i think i might be interested in getting a new psp go
