Simple versus matches are for all those other fighting games out there. Tekken 6 is about to take it up a notch by bringing those matches outside the arena.
It's not a new game announcement, but it's still pretty nifty. Amidst all the other goings-on at this year's E3, Namco has announced a brand-new gameplay mode for Tekken 6. They refer to it as the Scenario Campaign mode, but you can think of it as a cross between Tekken, Soulcalibur, and a third-person brawler.
Playable either in single player or cooperatively, the mode makes use of a new control scheme that integrates free movement into classic versus fighting, and sets you down in a roamable world more akin to a shooter level than a fighting arena. You'll be able to move through story-focused levels, taking on assaults from waves of weaker enemies with staves, guns, and hulking, mech-like robots, in addition to your fists and feet. Plus, anything you find in the story mode can be equipped on your character and brought online -- which could lead to some fairly insane online matches, if you ask us.
Scenario Campaign mode will be available in both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Tekken 6, come this Fall. While you're waiting, you might as well take a look at all the other news that's been coming out of this year's E3!

Sounds interesting. But I could never pick up Tekken and just start competing with the veteran Tekken gamers. I was always a Street Fighter guy, and after that, Virtua Fighter. Then to Soul Calibur. The last Tekken I really got into was 4.

Kinda sounds like what they did for Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks or whatever... it was allright, but not the main draw to the game. I kinda wish we could get the "tag" option back instead.... or both :)

Quick update: Played a TON of Tekken 6 and it is GREAT. The graphics are INSANE (and slightly better on the PS3, crisper and sharper). The new Scenario mode is also a hoot -- very cool update on Tekken Force. I really liked the second level, where you pilot a massive, chaingun-wielding robot tank.

From all the hands on I've read about this mode, everyone says it's pretty terrible. They say if you played Tekken Force then you've played this, only now with sluggish Mecs and guns you can control. I hated Tekken Force so I'll stick to the fighting game myself.

I've been a Tekken vet for a very long time, so this mode isn't anything new to us. I read that you can create your own characters in this game. Can't wait, this will be awesome!
