Square Enix starts its E3 early with Nier

On the eve of gaming's biggest convention, Square Enix has started things off right with a grand unveiling of its next game and a bold step into the action-adventure market.

And you thought they were all Final Fantasy and Japanese RPG's. Not content to wait a mere 24 hours, Square Enix has announced Nier, a fiery jaunt into western-style action-adventure gaming, done with all the glimmer and glory the publisher is so well known for.

Nier (pronounced just like "near") will tell the story of its titular character, a father searching through a broken land for a cure to the Black Scrawl. The ravaging disease has afflicted his daughter, and sword in hand, he is determined to save her at any cost. With as-yet unrevealed allies and a magical book seemingly at his command, Nier will be doing battle with creatures and forces better left alone, in a world where nothing is as it appears and, Square Enix promises us, perception cannot be trusted.

As befits a hack-and-slasher, Nier will allow you to chain together attacks into combos, acquire and master a variety of weapons, and wield magical abilities, to the inevitable devastation of everything around you.

The publisher's not stopping there, either, promising to show off Front Mission Evolved, Order of War, Supreme Commander 2, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and of course, Final Fantasy XIII at their booth over the course of the week.

Yeah, we're smiling too. Keep an eye on our E3 coverage, folks. The show's just getting started!

Well, it's not the Final Fantasy VII remake, but it'll do...lol..and sweet...a '1st' comment! LOL!

Game looks impressive. it's No final fantasy 13 but as long as square makes rpgs we should all be happy.

My only question is...Where's Kingdom Hearts 3? i'd like it if square was making that game.
