Confirmed: LucasArts reveals Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for DS and PSP

Fans of Star Wars: Battlefront and Battlefront II, can look forward to an all new installment coming to the DS and PSP later this fall, which promises all new mechanics not yet seen in the series.

LucasArts revealed today that a new game in the Battlefront series will be released later this fall entitled, Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. The game will be released for the Nintendo DS and PSP hand held systems, and although it's on a smaller console, the game promises to employ all new features not yet seen in the Battlefront series.

For the first time, players will start their campaign on land, but will have the ability to commandeer a vehicle that they can then fly and navigate into space and land upon a capital starship, continuing the battle from there.

For PSP players, the game will feature more character customization than ever before, from clothing to physical strengths, which can be continuously customized as you unlock new items.

I guess he didn't let the Wookie win.

The PSP version will also feature a 16-player multiplayer option, while the DS will have 4-player skirmishes. On top of all of this, an all new "Heroes and Villains" mode will allow players to assume the roles of major Star Wars good guys and bad guys as they make their way through the game.

As for the story, in an all-new single player storyline, players will assume the role of a force-sensitive clone trooper X2, who, much to the chagrin of his evil twin X1, ignores order 66 and joins the Rebellion.

With all these new features, Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron looks to be a pretty action packed little game. So, hold onto your blasters as Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron makes it's way to the Nintendo DS and PSP later this fall.

THE VERDICT by Sean Mirkovich Sean Mirkovich's Avatar With all the new features, this DS/PSP version of Battlefront looks pretty fun and really, any excuse to battle alongside some Wookies is a good excuse in my book. Provided that they don't monologue about skin being softer than sand. But, I think Wookie's know better than that.

...and again the DS version will be better, AGAIN, GP will emphasize the SONY version nonetheless...

*sigh*

Yeah i still play starwars battlefront 2 for the psp and can't for this new realese. The idea sounds good makes me think of Star Wars Renegade Squadron. We will just have too see how things turn out. And I hope that they don't disappoint. Though I am having a bits of doubts about the storyline.

sounds like the game is going to be better than renegade squadron...
and to Sean Mirkovich (verdict), its wookiee, not wookie.

Well, I guess I deserve to have my arms pulled out of their sockets for that one.

KILLPEOPLE

should the game come out this year or wait awhile for psp2 to get here (or just release it on next gen consoles)....what do ya'll think?

This game looks really cool but why did it take a long time for them to make another Battlefront???

This sounds good, but hopefully they've learned their lessons from Renegade Squadron (just holding R and mashing X the whole time...sounds like fun, right?). The customization wasn't all that well implemented last time either. Still, unlockable gear is always cool.
