King of Fighters XII will have DLC, unique online modes

Thanks to Ignition Entertainment, The King of Fighters XII is coming stateside this summer, already packing some extra modes and DLC secrets that should satisfy the hardcore SNK fanbase.

The King of Fighters XII is already making waves in the fighting game community, both due to its completely hand-crafted pixel artwork and slimmed-down character roster. But SNK fans shouldn't worry too much about the game's "Teen" rating and lack of Mai Shiranui. A close look at the game's webpage on the Japanese Xbox website shows that the game does indeed have more content that can be purchased in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The official King of Fighters site's new artwork also features Mai Shuranui, 'K', Shermie and Blue Mary. Let's hope they're available on DLC this July. (Seriously, I need Mai in my KOF.)

Of course, since both the PS3 and X360 versions of KOF XII are speculated to have similar content, these downloadable extras will probably also be available in the PlayStation Network's own online store. It still remains to be seen if (and how much) we'll have to pay to play with Mai Shiranui, but it looks like that there is a means for players to do so. Other features (including ranked battles and online team modes) can be cited on KOF XII's Xbox website, all translated thanks to slightly innacurate Babelfish translation tools.
