It seems the rumors were true, as Activision's next installment in the Tony Hawk series, Tony Hawk: Ride, will include a life-sized skateboard peripheral as its controller.

Motion-sensitive games and hardware seems to be an inevitable fact of the future, we're living in a post Wii world, and with that comes a plethora of companies striving to catch up. Yesterday on GameTrailers, Activision officially released photographic evidence and a trailer for their next game in the Tony Hawk series, Tony Hawk: Ride, which will include a large, black, life-sized skateboard that will work as the games controller.

New Tony Hawk game has giant life-sized skateboard controller

Tony Hawk: Ride will feature a large, life-sized skateboard controller. Will it be sensitive enough to register how terrible I am at skateboarding in real life?

Not much is said or demonstrated into how the actual device will work, but it's clear the skateboard peripheral will be the main feature in delivering some kickflips, amongst other moves. Perhaps at this years E3, we'll get a better understanding of how the board works and plays with Tony Hawk: Ride.

What is known, is that the game will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii systems.

From Gametrailers:
THE VERDICT by Sean Mirkovich Sean Mirkovich's Avatar Whether Activision will achieve a 900 like the man himself, Tony Hawk, or have a brutal faceplant with this device remains to be seen. While I'm not crazy about motion-sensitive devices seemingly being the main concern of developers rather than the games themselves, perhaps Activision will actually get it right. It would be a welcome change to see a motion-sensitive device that won't be primarily used for flipping pancakes.

Interesting to say the least. Though, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this. I mean, do I really want to be in my living room trying to pop off a fake kickflip? I used to skate, though I wasn't any good, it'll just make me want to go out and skate and hurt myself instead of looking silly in the living room trying to do some tricks.

but who knows, it might be fun. I hope its fun.

I think it looks sick. Whether I'll buy it or not is another story. Maybe if its compatible with Skate, otherwise, it's a controller-besed rental.

Yay! more peripherals... not sure about this one... why are there tons of buttons on the side? Are you supposed to flip the board up with your feet, and then hit a few buttons with your hands? Guess if there's a Wii version, it'll probably work with the balance board.

solidcheif

Are you supposed to bend down to press the buttons on the side? they should have dome a DDR button where you can step on the buttons.

Crunch40

Well this is stupid, whats wrong with making this a Wii exclusive and use the balance board?

Toneman

Well, maybe that thing can be used for an upcoming Back to the Future II videogame?

Haha, that would be awesome! If they made a hoverboard game, I'd be completely sold. MARTYYY!!!!!!!

I'll only try this game only if there is an option to use a standard controller and the physics don't send my guy flying through the air across a city after a simple bail like in Project 8.
