It's baaaaack!

Industry Readies for Major Game Unveilings and Announcements

Early Registration Ends Friday, May 1, 2009

Washington, DC - April 28, 2009 - The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) today announced that nearly 150 leading-edge computer and video game companies purchased space to show off the most innovative and advanced computer entertainment at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) from June 2-4, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A full list of current exhibitors is located on www.E3expo.com. Produced by IDG World Expo, companies still interested in exhibiting at E3 Expo should contact the team at (877) 216-6264.

"We are incredibly pleased with the quickly growing list of exhibitors and overwhelming support for the E3 Expo. We anticipate a packed house and a full line-up of industry-driving news and unveilings that will continue to propel the computer entertainment industry's growth through the year and particularly in the holiday season." said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA. The ESA is the trade association that represents the U.S. computer and video game publishers and owns the E3 Expo.

"Microsoft is gearing up for a big presence at E3 which will completely transform how people think about home entertainment," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "We're excited about the momentum that is building in the industry in anticipation of our June 1st media briefing, which will kick off E3 in blockbuster style."

"Nintendo has been a long time attendee of E3 and it has our full support," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO, Nintendo of America. "E3 brings a wide variety of key audiences into contact with products from many companies, including Nintendo. It's the place where creativity is on display, and as a 'sneak peak' for our entire industry it helps generate excitement for gamers around the world."

"Sony Computer Entertainment America is looking forward to another great showing at this year's E3 Expo," commented Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "The audience of North American-based and foreign media and key industry partners makes E3 Expo an ideal place for us to unveil the latest PlayStation news and products at our press event on June 2."

The ESA is also reminding E3 Expo attendees that hotel and travel accommodations are filling up quickly. For more information, visit the E3 Expo Web site at www.E3expo.com.

Good to hear from the bigwigs, but what does Steve Wiebe have to say about the show?

I hope there isn't an announcement of a new console from the big 3. If anyting, I would expect to see more innovation on the current generation consoles. The news everyone should be looking for on the PC side of things is that a company will be bringing games via a streaming set-top-box straight to your PC without having to make massive upgrades to current rigs. I forget the company but the article could be looked up at engadget.com. Going back to the big 3, expect more peripherals from them and more importantly games(obviously)! I strongly believe that Sony will litter the expo with games as well as Nintendo. I really don't expect too much as far as the gaming end from MS, then again they're tight lipped about everything. However, I would expect more entertainment tools/programs coming to the X360 (VLC, please? How about a portable console?). For Sony and Nintendo, focus on big announcements concerning the PSP and DS respectively. There's too much innovation going on outside their corporate walls that it's hard to ignore. Some of you know exactly what I'm talking about and I won't go beyond that.

I think the biggest news of the show will be the announcement of MMOs coming to consoles. Also, look for the demo of MvC2, maybe an announcement for MvC3 (hey, SSFIIHDR definitely helped usher in SF4, so it's definitely plausible). And lastly, games will become more hybrid like games such as Bioshock or World in Conflict(or is it Company of Heroes?) I think we'll see FPS games having more RPG elements, platformers will expound on 2D-3D mixes, and RTSs will incorporate FPS combat along with simulation.

Then again, I could just be full of crap, but anyhow it never hurts to think of plausible concepts and the best part about it... it's free(yeah, so bash the shit out of me and see if I care!)! I'm anticipating the expo, I'm just hoping that it's not a freakin' let down. Most of all, I hope you all enjoy it!

Hopefully Sony announces a huge update for PSN since PSN is the worst online aside from Nintendo...And hopefully MS just keeps making the better games!! We all know MS has the best games on any of the 3 consoles right now....Most sony games are expendable aside from KZ2,Uncharted and MGS4....And nintendo needs to get there head in online gaming as well...Although the Wii isn't really for Hardcore gamers so I don't think it will......Nintendo needs to show some new Zelda Stuff Exclsuively for the Wii and I'm definately looking forward to the Silent Hill Remake...The only thing I'm really looking forward too from Sony is God of War 3 and of course Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2! Although I've already smoked that game on the 360...Sony always gets the table scraps.......and then they have to find someway to make it better so they can tack on that 60.00 Dollar fee.......Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a Threemake...*LOL*

i dont know about you but PSN is good enough for me . i mean it doesnt have everything i wanted but at least it fulfilled the least i need , much much better from what i got from nintendo .i gotta disagree the gaming because for me , resistance serie is also very good and LBP is also a blast . there arent much quality game that i bought for 360 either : gow serie , halo 3 , fable 2 and .... well i think that was it . i think the rest are also expendable . i rented the rest , got tire after 2 weeks ( many game :2 days ). halo wars is ok , but i would rather play RTS on PC , which i do much frequently

I think Sony and MS will probably have a big year. It seems like they have both been holding back on announcements just to surprise every one at E3.

Nintendo will probably announce one or two hot titles along with a bunch more shovelware (lets face it...they really don't need to announce anything as long as soccer moms keep snatching Wiis up).

Man, those arguments were valid a year or two ago. PS3 has been picking up the pace with some pretty killer titles. They definitely had a slow start, but their exclusive line up is definitely at least on par with 360 and they have a better lineup of new games this year. And no, I don't think MS has the best games of any of the consoles. They have some awesome games for sure. But so does PS3, and so does the Wii. XBL is better than PSN, you're right. But hardly. Online play on PSN works just as well as 360 and they're continually updating with new features. That it's free is definitely a plus. I don't know very much about Wii's online functionality, but I think they at least have a web browser. No idea why 360 doesn't, you'd think it'd come with the XBL price tag. The Wii does need a jumpstart game-wise, but they do have some really fun games out there, and they can rest pretty comfortably with the stacks they've piled up.
Anyways, about the article. It's kinda interesting how different the tones of the responses were. Microsoft's "complete transformation" of how we think about home entertainment should be interesting. I'm sure it will be cool, but I have my doubts, they tend to dramatize things a bit.
Nintendo just sounds happy to be a part of it. Probably nothing spectacular, but I'm sure they'll have some cool things to show.
Sony doesn't seem to have much to say aside from it'll be a good one.
I'm looking forward to what all of them have in store for us. I think this will be a good year for games.

Of course they are promising big things...what do you expect them to say...that they aren't working on anything and are unprepared?!
