In an interview with Gamasutra, Sony's Peter Dille says that illegal video game copying and sharing of Sony PSP games has gotten out of control. Dille calls the growing problem of PSP piracy "sickening" and also explains why it hurts PSP owners and not just game companies.
"I'm convinced and we're convinced that piracy has taken out a big chunk of our software sales on PSP... ...it's not good for us, but it's not good for the development community. We can look at data from BitTorrent sites from the day Resistance: Retribution goes on sale and see how many copies are being downloaded illegally, and it's frankly sickening. We are spending a lot of time talking about how we can deal with that problem." -Peter Dille

Piracy is here to stay. It isn't going anywhere. It is obvious that the government don't care about it. It hurts everyone.

Piracy should result in serious fines and jail time even for the end user!

Sony should try to use a download service and not have the UMD discs something like what Nintendo is doing with their DSi. Getting iso's is way too easy because there are sites where you can get the whole iso and put it on your memory stick and you are good to go.

there should be a way for internet providers to track the IP address of someone who uploads a copy of a game

Why should we care? I walk into target and see a new DVD for 20$ bucks??? When I know it cost less then a dollar to make that one DVD in that DVD case. Sale me that same NEW DVD for 9.99 at relese and I might shut up. The compaies wine about how we do them wrong when they should be looking at them selves. If you need to cut cost stop giving these stupid actors MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO BE IN A CRAP MOVIE. Same with all these people in pro sports WOW YOU CAN RUN DOWN THE FIELD WITH A BALL LETS PAY YOU MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THAT! This will not change, so people will get what they can for free. The system uses us! SO WHY CAN'T WE???

To totally shut down pirating is hard. To put a huge dent in it, isn't. But look around, right now one of the biggest illegal file sharing website is in court for this, and they will probably win. How hard is it to convict people for doing something wrong???? It's all politics, we have a broken system. We see people break the law over and over again, and never get the punishment they deserve. It's always the college kid, or the high school kid who downloaded a few CD's that gets fined thousands of dollars and possible jail time. It's never the people responsible for running the sites and making them available to the public in the first place. People in power always walk or get a slap on the wrist. HOW MESSED UP IS OUR SYSTEM???

I agree piracy is wrong, but let me just say the the tone of the 1st 5 comments on this story sounds more like prepared comments from a corporation, trying to set a tone, than the comments of regular gamepro users. Not saying that all 5 are from Sony, but a couple. Remember the Loco Roco giveaway or something like that, here at Gamepro? It was like 15 pages of gay excitement, with different users sometimes even repeating the exact same comments word for word.

Yeah Sony it is sickening. But the companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo created the problem. It is simple to me to see the answer to it. More so Microsoft and Sony. But it is HARD for them because of the fact they are controlled by the same thing that is really driving it. What is the driver behind pirating?
GREED!
If the average high priced game was $19 dollars they would not have to worry about the average person having to steal to afford games. Most thiefs will not break into a bank to steal $20. Most people will not risk getting thier 360 or ps3 or psp bricked or banded from xbox live for a 19.99 game. But a $39,49,59 dollar game they will. The other side of this coin is less money per copy. But there is a third engenios effect.
