Mysterious Marvel vs. Capcom 2 site goes live

Is this the precursor to a new Marvel vs. Capcom 2 release? Or is Capcom planning something entirely different?

According to some intense Matlockery at The Game Reviews, a new Marvel vs. Capcom 2 release may be just mere days away from being announced.

New ratings on the ESRB site were the first indications that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was going to be some next-gen activity, but the recent launch of the Web site "http://www.tu4ar.com/" (an assumed reference to the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 song, "Take You For A Ride) has people guessing what the countdown clock is.. well, counting down to. The Game Reviews discovered that while no details are given away on the countdown site, it does load data from URLs that appear to be part of Capcom's development server.

See quotes below from The Game Reviews for all the technical talk.

Mysterious Marvel vs. Capcom 2 site goes live

Less than a week to go...

While loading, the website transfers data from another domain - http://dev02.capcomusa.net/. The base url just loads a Fedora test page, but some snooping on that domain yields another url - http://dev02.capcomusa.net/mvc2gmt/. If nothing else, this new URL certainly indicates the game in question is MvC2, with the timer being based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

A bit more snooping reveals even more promising information. The domain, www.tu4ar.com, is registered to one Kathleen Alley who lives in Redwood City, California. Capcom USA is located in San Mateo, CA - a mere 10 to 15 miles away from Redwood City. Alley could very well be an employee of Capcom USA. Another link to Capcom proper comes in the form of this Capcom-unity post, which includes a reference to the website in question (thanks to NeoGAF member Judderman for the spot).

Perhaps most telling of all, CAPTIVATE '09 - Capcom's annual game expo - is set to kick off in just over a week. While the timer is set to expire shortly before the scheduled start of the event, the count down may signal a pre-event announcement so journalists can prepare to cover the game.

THE VERDICT by McKinley Noble McKinley Noble's Avatar Wait, if Capcom's re-releasing Marvel vs. Capcom 2, does that mean I can still hope for a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 launch in the future? Hmm. After all, Street Fighter IV followed on SFII Turbo HD Remix pretty quickly.

Wow, I recently took advantage of coupons and something else at GS to get this game on PS2 for less than $40. If this re releases with an online component I will buy this but if they is no online VS, I'm sticking to my PS2 version (which is DAMN fun).

I still got my original on ps2 from back in the day. But a Hd upgrade would be lovely.

If this is indeed Marvel vs. Capcom 2, then this will be the first arcade game that I download for my 360. I've had my 360 since launch and I haven't downloaded any of the arcade games. I was tempted by Castlevania: SOTN, but I never got around to downloading it. I really hope this is true because I am a huge Marvel vs. Capcom 2 fan. They used to have an arcade unit of the game at the local Walmart and I would always play it when I went. I spent a lot of quarters on that damn game. lol
