Fight Night 4's physics engine could be what sets it apart from UFC 2009

The stage is set and gamers are anxiously awaiting both Fight Night Round 4 and UFC 2009: Undisputed.

But which game will simulate its real life counterpart the best? According to GamePro's preview -- which you can read in this month's magazine -- UFC 2009 is already head and shoulders above past UFC games. So what about EA Sports' next boxing title, can it top Fight Night Round 3 which has been the pinnacle of simulation boxing since its release?

In my "first look" post I talked about the underlying x-factor in Fight Night Rround 4's gameplay, the improved physics engine, and how it has allowed developers to attain a realism never before seen in a fighting game.

In previous boxing games including FNR3, gamers were restricted to four punching zones ? left/right high, left/right low ? but FNR4 shatters this outdated mechanic and introduces something entirely revolutionary. Now punches will fly in more directions than ever before, glancing off their opponents and tangling with one another in realistic fashion. Both the puncher?s arm and opponent?s impacted body part will react according to the speed, power and direction of the punch. -- GamePro Sports

The new "Physics Sizzle" gameplay trailer illustrates exactly what I was describing about how this revolutionary new engine will fundamentally change the way Fight Night games are played. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the future of simulation fighting.

Cant afford both, this is going to be a tough choice. Loved FNR 3 but UFC just looks awesome. I cant wait.

Gixman

I'm gonna get both games. but i'll probably be playing ufc more especially since Quinton "RAMPAGE" Jackson is a gamer and i wanna kick his ass online lol.

pytliks

I think it's safe to say I'll be ponying up the money and getting both ;)

I've always been a HUGE boxing fan, it's basically the only sport I care about, and FN is the best boxing game out there, so I'll definetly get FNR4.

I never really cared for UFC/MMA, etc.

PreacherofDoom

i'm buying fnr4 the day it comes out. 3 was the best boxing game ever and this one looks sick. the realism is unbelievable. i like watching ufc, but you don't get the wars you see in boxing. anyone see juan manuel marquez vs. juan diaz this year. there hasn't been a single mma fight this year that was a war like that. their gloves are so small, they get hurt with one good shot and it's over. boxing > mma.
