Steve Wiebe, whose attempted to break the Donkey Kong record score in The King of Kong, is trying again at E3 2009.
You guys have seen The King of Kong, right, the documentary about Steve Wiebe's attempts to unseat Billy Mitchell as the Twin Galaxies (and later the Guinness) world's champion at Donkey Kong? No? Go see it, it's a fascinating and at points scathing look at just how passionate and ridiculous competitive gaming can get.
Now, the important bit: Wiebe will be making another attempt at becoming the Donkey Kong world's champion at this year's E3 Expo, with the match taking place on June 2nd. G4TV will be there, official scorekeepers Twin Galaxies will be there, and nothing short of fireballs and flaming barrels can keep an OMGNintendo contingent from being there. The stakes are incredibly high in this event, as world's champion Billy Mitchell's high score of 1,050,200 points is just barely ahead of Steve Wiebe's score of 1,049,100. History is going to be made, one way or another.

Twin Galaxies is a shady operation I don't trust them after watching the documentary. Wiebe won the record legit and Billy sends in some questionable video that looked fake.

the king of kong documentary is awesome, I've seen it a few times; my brother bought it. I hope Steve Wiebe wins AGAIN... Even though in the movie they say that Mitchel has done a lot of good things helping people, I couldn't help but hate him; so arrogant and blah.... Steve Wiebe on the other hand, looked like a good person

Twin Galaxies is a farce. they dont take steve's video of him playing an actual arcade unit as proof he broke the record so he had to do it in person YET, they took a vid from mitchell that not only didnt show him actually PLAYING THE GAME but it looked like it was a vid capture directly from the game itself.
Ive got no problems with game competition and rivals going at it but, Mitchell is a pu$$y who will do anything to keep his precious records. He could learn a lot from younger game players like Fatal1ty. Yes, he is a shooter guy and a bit arrogant but he wins in person in front of huge crowds and doesnt take the pu$$y way out and send in a vid captured tape and if he looses, he is gracious about it and doest resort to underhanded questionable tactics to get his designation as a top player back.
GO STEVE.
I will say, I would like to see them go up 1 on 1 at the same place on 2 machines. Then again, Mitchel is too big of a pu$$y to play in public as most of his records are taped submitions which means he doesnt have to worry about people seeing him play named with chocolate syrup and candle wax covering his body.
