Rumor: $99 PS2 to be announced soon

The best-selling video game system of all time may be getting cheaper by 30 bucks very soon.

An anonymous tipster over at Kotaku was able to take a picture of Kmart's retail database, which shows that the price of the Playstation 2 console will be lowered to $99.99 next week. The circular that will reflect this price drop is set to release on April 5th.
Sony is rumored to be making an announcement tomorrow, though there's no word yet on whether or not they will also be announcing a PS3 price drop as well (cross your fingers!).

I've got a better idea! How about ps2 emulation for the ps3 users with non backwards compat systems so we can play some kick ass last gen games!

This is a lower price? I bought one for my little cousins birthday for $50 new online. Anyway if any of the GamePros read this I'm having a huge amount of problems getting into any page on the site. I doubt it's my work computer because every other site works fine. Anyway just thought I'll bring it up I don't visit here much since it doesn't work and it sucks because this is my favortite site so........PLEASE FIX IT SOON!!!!!!

This announcement would have been awesome.....three years ago. I already have a PS2(along with over a 100 million other people) so this isn't anything special to me. Sony needs to work on that PS3 price cut.

Sony is screws either way with this move. For one it is good because it will sell more PS2's at a huge profit because they must be cheap to manufacture. On the other hand it is going to cut into their PS3 sales. More people will spend 1/4 of the price on the PS2. A PS2 price drop will need they have to drop the PS3 price by at least $50 to $!00 to compete.
