Rock Band, Harmonix's stellar rock sensation has officially broken the one billion dollar barrier in North American retail sales.
A ground-breaking musical revolution from the start, it comes as no surprise that, according to this morning's announcement by The NPD Group, Harmonix's Rock Band franchise has exceeded one billion dollars in sales.
To further the series' success, NPD also reported that over 40 million paid individual songs have been sold via Rock Band's DLC, remaining a strong first for paid song sales across the board.

Good for them I guess. I could never understand the appeal of this game and Guitar Hero seeing as they don't really have much in common with playing actual instruments.

That's an incredible amount of songs, but I'm not surprised given how many I've bought and how many my friends have purchased. It might not be like playing real instruments (although I'm a singer, so my situation's more like real life), but it's a great time.

The appeal is that it is so easy to pick up and play your favorite songs without having to learn an actual instrument or pay several hundred dollars for one. the guitar hero learning curve is much easier than an actual guitar.
also mad props to EA and harmonix for such huge sales...and even more props to them for having a solid singing system unlike guitar hero world tour

Impressive. The fact that the game costs a lot of money when it comes with the instruments notwithstanding.

That's good and all and I've played both RB and GH but at friends houses and it was a blast, but never would I pay $150 for a video game!! If people want to spend their hard earned money on one video game, then go ahead cause I would rather buy a Wii for $50 more. I won't even spend $150 on a pair of shoes cause that's just to much money, but that just goes to show how materialistic people are.
