Sony still has no immediate plans to drop prices on the PlayStation 3.
Sony, once the dominant leader in the console wars, is under pressure to reduce the retail price of PlayStation 3 consoles to as much as $100 less than the current price, reports Bloomberg. Declining sales over the past few months and the risk of losing development funds to Nintendo's white-hot Wii console have been contributing factors to rumors of a PS3 price drop. Typically, developing games for Microsoft and Sony are more costly, and game developers are turning their focus to the current top-selling Wii over other options.
Although data collected by the NPD shows that a price reduction has an immediate impact on increasing sales and profitability, Sony's exclusive titles for the PS3, including the recent Killzone 2 and other multimedia deals with movies and television shows has been beneficial says Peter Dille, the senior vice president of marketing for Sony in Foster City. According to Dille, there are still no immediate plans to cut the price of PS3 consoles.

Sony has totally lost and will continue to lose this console war. I used to be a loyal Sony buyer until they charged that ridiculous price for the PS3. I have and Wii and have to admit that it was the most horrible way to waste of $266.00. Good thing I have an xbox 360. Although the 360 has hardware issues it is by far the best system as far as affordability and game library. I hate Microsoft but they have and will trump Sony this time.

I sure hope this guy is lying, otherwise at current prices, for me the PS3 is just not a good value. I have no desire to pay extra for Blue Ray capabilities that I dont need! Who wants to spend an extra $10 per DVD movie, if you even buy movies anymore with services like Netflix around? Oh well, God of War 3 will have to wait :(

They are already selling them at a loss, but at this point I think they almost need to make the price cut to stay afloat. I have a PS3 and admittedly love the system. But to get a higher install base, they totally need to cut it.

no matter what happen , i still love my ps3 over the dead body of 2 360 that i used to love so much . it just a great piece of hardware that i can always rely on . a price drop would be wise in this economy but to take more debt would also kill the company . ps3 got sony stuck .but , i believe a price cut would be coming in the next 4 -8 months if the sale doesnt and likely not improve by then . until then , sony will resist any announcement because it will kill the sale for now as people wait for the price drop .
